Michelle Obama's Expensive Fashion Rivals That Of Ann Romney

Precisely. Everyone should know that designers routinely send celebrities gowns and dresses to be photographed "worn", which translates to sales for them. I doubt if Michelle Obama has had to pay for any of her designer dresses, as a designer would "kill" to have her wear it. So "non-issue".

LOL

So she is using her position of power to get items for free, say hello to the First Lady Grifter. She relates so well with the common folks.

I don't believe that first ladies have accepted donations from designers since Nancy Reagan got into hot water for it. I believe if they did, it would have to be disclosed yearly. I am not sure about this, and I can't find anything on it. But I'd have to see evidence that her clothes are donated and she doesn't pay for them. I just don't remember this ever being mentioned about anyone other than Reagan who accepted untold amounts of designer clothes and jewelry. But again, that was a bit of a scandal or what passes for one in this country. Of course, her husband was breaking all kinds of laws but the press was more interested in who was paying for her clothes. Personally I don't care one way or the other. THe position. regardless of who holds it, does call for expensive clothes period.

I did find a story that mentioned that her inaugural ball gown was donated by Jason Wu in return for being donated to the Smithsonian in a "long standing tradition". So apparently all first ladies get their inaugural gown donated and in turn donate it to the Smithsonian. Other than that there doesn't seem to be anything other than rumors on right wing websites that they themselves say they can't confirm but it's "well known the Obamas like free handouts" which is of course right wing for "those fucking n'ers we all know how they are".

That's all I can find.

Wow this was disabled Cawacko. Now I am really curious what you had here. Telling me to go eff myself somehow I bet.

Actually, my mother is a very decent person. Why you attack people's moms so much is simply beyond me. You know nothing about them. What are you, eleven years old?

Right. You're allowed to call everyone with whom you disagree a "bitch." How else do you expect to be addressed? Fuck you.

No, I don't "dig." And I do not read them. My point is that people bitch about this sort of shit on a daily basis. Only people with an agenda would automatically assume racism in this case, and as it so happens, you inject racism into just about every discussion on this forum.

Seriously, seek professional help.

You know you righties have a problem with "common sense". It eludes you. You post:

Look asshole, I don't give two shits about what Mrs. Obama wears or what it costs. She can wear a $250,000 designer dress or a burlap sack as far as I care. I'm just saying I see no racism here. People on both sides constantly bitch about what their opponent/opponent's significant other wears, or about what celebrities wear. Haven't you ever seen the tabloid covers in the grocery store? Racism my ass.

and then you "bitch" when I talk about your mother, when you precipitated the insult by addressing me as "asshole". Don't bring none, won't be none. I talk about your mother because that's a "sure-fire" way to get your attention. And you're absolutely right....I know nothing about your mother, and I'm sure she is a decent person and all. I am too. And when you address me properly, you'll find that I'm wishing your mother well. Capice?

And "clueless", no one automatically assumes anything, especially "crying racism", if none exists. Yurt, who is known for posting "race-baiting" threads and threads which portray the Obamas' unfavorably, posted this very thread, and then asked the question , "Is Michelle Obama "out of touch" (compared to Ann Romney)? "Racist", on its' face. Stop pretending that Michelle Obama is like any other previous First Lady. She is not. This is unprecedented. Uncharted waters. Any comparison, criticism, question, repartee' concerning her has her race attached to it. The next black First Lady, maybe not so much, but this one here, unequivocal. The same with Barack Obama. Every criticism, every question, by a white person, a black person will be wondering if there is a racist component to it, by definition. Hey, I don't make the rules, I just point them out.

I started to post on this last night but hate posting from the iPad. I read this from the OP to the end and must say that after examining the OP I can't see the racism. Maybe it's because I am brown and not black. I am an indian looking guy living where indian looking folks are the norm. I do think it is a very stupid thing to write a news article over. I'm guessing it is a slow time for the news everywhere from some reason. The last three nights our local news has covered stories about how the National Weather Service sends out alerts and how tornado sirens really might not be effective. Riveting stuff.

I know this....rich people wear expensive stuff sometimes. The president's wife is in a position where expensive stuff is a necessity. Whatever nut brought the Romney shirt up was countered by another nut writing about the first lady and her clothes. Political tit for tat. Both are idiots, IMO, but I don't see racism in either article.

Something else I have garnered while reading this thread is that you are not allowed to disagree with president Obama because it might be racist. I don't get it. I disagree with president Obama on the issues of gun control, abortion, certain aspects of the health care law, education stances (though I am closer to him that to any republican I have heard), etc. etc. I don't think that makes me racist. I disagreed with Bill Clinton in the same areas. As to disdain and dislike, I dislike Nancy Pelosi, Newt Gingrich, Dianne Feinstein and such much more than I dislike president Obama.

We are at a point in this country where we are as divided as at any point I can remember in my lifetime and we're wanting to focus on what the prospective 1st lady and the current 1st lady are wearing? Democrats and Republicans alike would do good to put this to bed and move on. Show me how you can work together to take care of some really important things that need tended to in our society.

LOL

Did Jackie Kennedy use her position of power to get Oleg Cassini to design her inaugural gown? Did she "grift" for the fashions of Chanel and Givenchy , who also designed for her?
But because it's a black woman in the austere position of First Lady, she has to manipulate to get free fashions? Right. Racist pig.

Well, first of all I want to correct the false impression, which I was also laboring under, that the first salvo in this was fired at Ann Romney. Nope. Ends up that the right has been attacking Michelle OBama all along for the price of her clothes, and it made a particularly big splash in the bug corners of the internet (for instance, over at Bug Central the Daily caller) when she went to Hawaii late last year and wore an expensive sundress. So lets lay that to rest right here - the right picked this fight long before ann Romney paraded around in her thousand dollar t shirt. Most of us here don't know that, I didnt know it, I'm sure you didn't know it, I bet Cawacko didn't know it...but a few do. The kind who patronize Bug Central know.

Anyway, I feel it becomes a code. I feel I am more able to pick this stuff up because of sexism. I can sniff out a Nice Guy (TM) or an MRA by just a sentence sometimes. It's not something you'd pick up on. Because i have read tons of rants from Nice Guys, PUA's and MRA's. I think it's the same with this kind of thing. certain corners of the right have been after Michelle all along and in really openly racist ways "its' well known the Obama's love a free handout". So black people who know about this, can sniff out the more cleverly coded "concern" about the cost of her clothes that might not be picked up so readily by you or me.

ANyway, that is my opinion.

Yeah poet's actually right about this. I know I will get a lot of resitance to this, but IMO its dog whistle racism. It reminds me a lot of a thing that was going around during the 08 campaign. It was one of those right wing email chain things. It claimed that Michelle had eaten lobster at the Waldorf and it itemized her bill and said, how outrageous. Now, it actually was a complete fabrication and never happened. But the real question was; so what if it had? As if Cindy McCain hadnt eaten at the Waldorf? Had never had an expensive lobster dinner at a five star restaurant? Of course she had.. This email was a play at white resentment, a way of getting angry struggling whit people to say, damn I worked hard all my life now I have no job and this n word is eating lobster at the Waldorf?

Michelle Obama is the first lady of the united states. She dresses, as all white first ladies before her, in accordance. I have a newsflash - it's very likely that Barack obama s suits are very expensive and custom made. Just as all white president's before him. Stfu with this crap.

1) The whole 'did you know rich people wear expensive clothes' thing is fucking retarded
2) If the left is going to criticize the right's spouse for wearing expensive clothes, it is quite fucking retarded to say 'its racism if you say it about our candidate'
3) if anything you are asking us to treat her differently because she is black... for if the Obama's were white, you would agree it was just stupid tit for tat partisan bullshit. Instead you proclaim 'dog whistle' racist behavior is behind it.

Excuse me...but Michelle Obama actually gets "down and dirty" planting trees and veggies with children on the lawn of the White House. She shows up at childrens' recitals, and speaks to schools and organizations about community and helping folks. When has Ann Romney done anything nearly approaching that? Before the White House, Michelle and Barack didn't have "help". Ann Romney has had "help" since she married Mr. Big Stuff.

That portion is just nonsense perpetuated by the left. you each point to the fact that they have help now and proclaim that it must have been so for all time.

I guess I will just repost this:

What you're not understanding is no white person can be objectively critical of President Obama or the First Lady, and for it not to be perceived as possibly racist. Period. I don't like it. Many folks probably are objective in their criticism of them....but who is to say, who is being objective and who is being racist?????????? If you can come up with a "fool-proof" evaluation, that doesn't tip the scales, then I'm on board. Otherwise, tough nookies. A white person cannot prove that their criticism is objective. By definition.

So do tell us SF, how does it feel to be skewered by a girl first thing in the morning?

I'll let you know when it happens. It doesn't matter if some bug shit website (or whatever you called it) commented on her clothes before. The left is obviously wanting to play the same stupid tit for tat bullshit. It is retarded to call it racist.

The bolded and underlined is racist. Not to mention complete bullshit.

Obviously YOU are the self proclaimed person to decide whether others are racist. You are no longer allowed to criticize any white person. Because there is no way for you to prove that your criticism is objective.

Well, I don't know the story, or claim to. But I would assume that when she married Mitt, Mitt had money, and what with all the talk that she was an "at home" mom, you just know she didn't wash any dishes or cook any food or dust any furniture...she was too busy planning her social calendar and spending Mitt's money. They had "hired help' to do the dirty work. She didn't just turn into a bitch, "one fine day". She's always been one. I bet she was one in school. Bitches tend to attract each other. Look around here.

She nailed your ass big time, freaky. And it is dog whistle racism and you know it.

Really? Well, since y'all started it....I'm gonna finish it. My momma taught me to judge people by their hearts, so when folks come at me, "all negative", all bets are off. Black folks were the slaves to white folks, not the other way around. So, after years of enslavement, rape, murder, and beatings, when they got free, it bred resentment on the parts of some/most whites. It carried through Reconstruction, and Jim Crow....it carried through the integration of schools...it carried through the civil rights movement and to this very day. And you think we don't have anything to criticize? Sorry, but it's not a tit for tat. And if you can't understand that, then I can't help you....way to go on your new attitude towards me.
