Corona Virus Peak Watch Thread

Hello moon,

He just wants to be noticed. He's named himself after a confused animal.

Oh, I was speaking in general terms, just in case someone poked in out of curiosity. Nobody in particular.

I certainly do not refer to any specific individual from my Ignore List.

Once someone has shown that they do not respect me, they get added to my Ignore List before they can do it again.

That way, it is impossible for an abuser/enabler relationship to become established, in which I have no interest.

I try to be very clear about that up front so someone doesn't make a mistake they regret.

I have to be very strict about that because if I don't then any further abuse is my fault for allowing it to happen.

Anybody can unload on me once. That's on them. If it happens again, that time is on me.

I love the results of that policy. It works remarkably well. My visits here are primarily focused on actual political discussion (imagine that.)

I have no interest in the insult contests which make up 98% of the posts here (sadly.)

Alright. I just checked the data for yesterday. Monday is my favorite day to update this thread because the Sunday reporting is always low. Yesterday was no exception. Once again, the best numbers of the week. Only 35K new cases. (as if that is a good thing...) It's all relative, you know.

Well, we had another bad day in the pandemic.

109K new cases.

Maybe Sturgis + dropping mask and vaccine requirements + having thousands of people crammed together for hours in football stadiums is not a good idea in a pandemic.

Ya think?

Oh!

There we go.

Active Cases 9,675,027

We have officially passed our previously set peak in Active Cases of COVID-19 in the USA.

There are more Active Cases than there have ever been.

The previous peak in Active Cases was on 1-18-21 at 9,666,132.

Now, we can begin to wonder just how high it will go.

That all depends on how quickly we can get the vax hold-outs to give it up and join the solution.

Let's get UNITED in the United States!

Well, it's pretty clear now the second week of April 2020 was not the worst week of the pandemic.

Trump Was Wrong, Is Wrong For America!!!

Monday is always the best day to look at the daily data. There isn't as much reporting on Sunday, so the numbers all appear low. It's not like death takes a weekend off, but we don't hear about it as much because the people who tells us about it do take the day off.

But as far as the overall picture goes, there is one encouraging data set to look at.

That is the number of Serious and Critical cases.

That is a leading indicator of the number of deaths. If you've got more people in Serious and Critical, then you're likely to have more people dying a week or two later.

But there is good news there.

The number of people in Serious and Critical appears to have peaked.

It got up to 25,778 on Sept 10th, and has dropped since.

Currently down to 24,328.

Let's hope that continues.
