Hello Controlled Opposition,
If we ever get past Covid, looking back, we may find that the most significant error we made was politicizing a virus.
It's so true. It never had to happen, but it did. Trump did that. He viewed the coronavirus in terms of the way he approaches everything else.
He looks at something and says: "How does this affect me and my image?"
And then: "What can I do to take this huge story, with all this attention, and make it about me?"
That was when Trump decided to try to 'manage' the coronavirus story.
What he didn't realize, what he totally missed, was that a worldwide pandemic was too big a story to try to make it all about him. He tried to politicize it, and only succeeded in dividing America into his ardent followers, and everyone else. He spread his nonsense, his followers latched onto it, and that prevented the timely unified response which would have been most effective. That allowed the virus to spread far and wide in the USA when it never needed to be so bad.
And with Trump, he never owns up to his mistakes, never takes responsibility for what he's done. When the virus got out of control, and it was clear that politicizing it was a tragic mistake, he blamed others for politicizing it. And naturally his followers latched right onto that and believed him.
No other disease has ever been politicized as badly as this one.
AIDs was just a warm up, the way Gays were attacked.
Now, the world has accepted homosexuality, and eventually, Trump's legacy will be having presided over the worst pandemic ever to hit the USA, and totally blowing the government response.
