Corona Virus Peak Watch Thread

Hello Darth,

Trump was wrong about some things and so was *literally* everyone else up to and including Fauci, several democrat governors and the teachers unions. They were wrong to shut down elective procedures—at the cost of many lives. It’s a very long list.

Everyone gets to be a member of the I Was Wrong Club.

What you are trying to do is lay this at the feet of Trump/Trump supporters when the blame belongs at the feet of the CCP. If you want to be non-partisan about it.

Trump needs to be held accountable for his actions, his lies and his inactions where action was called for.

The pandemic is absolutely worse than it needed to be in the USA because of irresponsible people taking Trump's lead and blowing off doing the right things.

People have acted irresponsibly because Trump did. He was a terrible leader and that got tens of thousands of people killed who never had to die.

Hello Darth,

Do you think that if Taiwan had taken the same approach that Trump did, that Taiwan would still have just 10 deaths, you know, because it is an island nation?

So if instead of sending an advance team directly to Wuhan, and determining long before the WHO that this was a serious pandemic, and then strictly regulating all entry into the nation, and requiring everyone who enters to quarantine for 14 days, with government monitoring; if Taiwan had simply instead said "It's nothing to worry about, just like the flu, 15 cases going to zero, will be gone with the warm weather in spring, and only 40,000 people can come in from China with no restrictions," that Taiwan would STILL have just 1o deaths? Do you really believe that, Darth?

There’s a fly in your ointment.

It’s the WHO’s responsibility to send investigators into Wuhan. Why do we bother funding them if they don’t do that much? But before they are allowed access to the relevant data the WHO would need permission from the CCP. You’re claiming Taiwan was allowed access while WHO wasn’t? I’ve never heard of that before. Taiwan knew about human to human transmission while no one else but them and the CCP did?

And your timeline doesn’t work: the virus was already sufficiently prevalent in our population to start a pandemic by the time Trump was saying it was no biggie. By your own admission, the virus spreads via asymptomatic carriers, so regardless of Trump’s rhetoric the clock was already ticking. Our pandemic was going to follow the same basic course no matter what anyone said or did.

That evidence is in now: in apples to apples comparisons [leaving island nations and totalitarian governments out of the mix] we now know that lockdowns and other mitigation measures didn’t seem to make a hell of a lot of difference in the net outcome. ‘Relaxed’ FL has essentially the same [or better] deaths per capita as other large states that went the draconian route.

We know this now.

"The Secret of success
One of the main reasons for Taiwan's success in containing the virus is speed.
The island's leaders were quick to act as rumors spread online of an unidentified virus in the Chinese city of Wuhan and unconfirmed reports of patients having to isolate.
Taiwan's Foreign Minister Joseph Wu told CNN the deadly outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in 2003 had taught them a lot. "At the time Taiwan was hit very hard and then we started building up our capacity dealing with a pandemic like this," said Wu.
"So, when we heard that there were some secret pneumonia cases in China where patients were treated in isolation, we knew it was something similar."
Even before Beijing publicly acknowledged the gravity of the virus, Wu said Taiwan health officials began screening passengers arriving from Wuhan and additional early travel restrictions were put in place.
As much of the world waited for more information, Taiwan activated its Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC), which coordinates different ministries in an emergency, and the military was brought in to boost mask and PPE production.
Those initial, early responses to the outbreak in China -- and the willingness to take action -- were critical in preventing the spread of the virus in Taiwan, potentially saving thousands of lives.

Direct flights from Wuhan, China were monitored from December 31, 2019 and all passengers underwent a health screen.
Taiwan's Center for Disease Control announced on January 20 it had sent two experts to Wuhan to try and "obtain more comprehensive information of the outbreak."
One day later, Taiwan confirmed its first reported case of the novel coronavirus. Wuhan residents were banned from entering and all passengers from China, Hong Kong and Macau were screened.
All this happened before Wuhan itself went into lockdown on January 23. And by March, Taiwan banned all foreign nations from entering the island, apart from diplomats, those with resident visas with special entry visas."

The Secrets Of Taiwan's Success At Fighting The Panedmic

Taiwan's secret is that skyscraper in Taipei that looks like a bunch of Chinese restaurant take out cartons stacked on top of one another.

If you've watched any Asian TV at all, you've seen it dozens of times.

It was scientifically designed to trap corona virus spores. It also traps some Mexican beer bottles, but that was an unintended effect.

[This is how we must talk to trampanzees; if we try to make sense, we're wasting effort better spent elsewhere.]

You really expect Trump, Obama, Biden, Clinton or fill in the blank, to put us in a hard lockdown based on internet rumors?

Hello Darth,

You really expect Trump, Obama, Biden, Clinton or fill in the blank, to put us in a hard lockdown based on internet rumors?

I didn't expect anything out of Trump that wasn't good for Trump. But he's old news. And so is Hillary.

President Biden is in the hot seat now. I expect him to take well considered action based on his excellent team coming up with well researched proposals.

And that is why his approval is soaring right now.

Handing out $1400 checks will do wonders for an approval rating lol.

But that money is soon spent. Given that they’ve resorted to printing it to pay for this madness there’s going to be inflation coming down the road. If it gets coupled with a recession Biden’s approval will head south.

The heavy Covid lifting was done under Trump. Biden didn’t have to lift a finger on vaccines—he only has to not screw up the distribution of them. Lord willing, they will get us to herd immunity. If not, then we’ll probably have more lockdowns, that don’t work, ahead of us.

There was distribution before Biden?

What I heard was there was no plan. Zero. Biden had to do all the work to put it together. Of course he gets credit for hard work.

I'm convinced we are going to have more restrictions. Republicans are not getting the vaccine. That's going to work well for the enemy in the war on COVID.

Bad news today.

While gathering the data, I noticed that the number of Active Cases bottomed out yesterday and began to rise again. That is expected to be reflected in tomorrow's post if it holds for the rest of the day today as more data comes in.

Wednesday

3-24

USA

Total Cases 30,704,292

New Cases +66,538

Total Deaths 558,422

New Deaths +1,405

Total Recovered 23,132,879

Active Cases 7,012,991

Serious, Critical 8,623

Tot Cases/1M pop 92,367

Deaths/1M pop 1,680

Total Tests 393,863,548

Tests/1M pop 1,184,853

Oh no.

Look at this.

The number of Daily New Cases has stopped falling and bottomed out.

We need more people to do the right things, wear masks, keep distance, wash hands.

We need more people to take this seriously and care about their fellow Americans.

New Cases:

It can clearly be seen that we have bottomed out at a figure which is higher than last summer.

Comon people.

Florida alone has 5000 new cases every day.

And you have to figure that doesn't include a lot of vacationers who go down there, get infected, don't know about it, and then go back home and only find out about it later if they get tested.

For the ones who are blowing off all the precautions, they probably only get tested if they have symptoms.

If they have no symptoms, they don't care, they don't get tested, they are 'not afraid,' and they go about their merry way spreading corona all over the place and leaving death in their trail.

California, with double the number of people in Florida, only has about 2800 new cases per day.

So what was that BS about California having similar statistics as Florida?

More conservative myths, apparently.

If you look at the Daily New Cases and the Daily New Deaths for the world, both curves have bottomed out and are sharply rising again.
