Corona Virus Peak Watch Thread

Hello Nordberg,

We are essentially fucked by a bad leadership and stupid followers. There is no way out when reds have the power. So Alabama Univ, opened up and they have 1200 cases in a couple of weeks. School are going to have to close again. But even a vaccine will not help us. Reports are that 40 percent of Americans will refuse to take it. Early on Trump said let it run its course. That is what we are doing.

But still. When the total number of confirmed cases is compared to the number of people in the USA, it indicates only 1.8% of Americans have gotten this virus. Now, we know the actual number is higher, but we do not know how much.

If enough people get the vaccine to stop the spread, then the virus shrinks. Eventually it is out of circulation, only clings on in remote cases. Did you know the bubonic plague is still alive? We have simply limited the spread to the point that it is not a problem for most people.

A relatively good day yesterday, as has been the case for a Sunday.

Almost all the parameters showed encouraging figures.

All except the number of Active Cases, which unfortunately continues to rise.

Hello moon,

Thanks for this link:

Oh wow.

This makes sense, (sadly.)

"Researchers think that non-Covid deaths have also increased in some places due partly to health service disruptions, although these may be harder to calculate.

The WHO survey said it was “reasonable to anticipate that even a modest disruption in essential health services could lead to an increase in morbidity and mortality from causes other than Covid-19 in the short to medium and long-term.” Further research was needed.

It also warned that the disruptions could be felt even after the pandemic ends. “The impact may be felt beyond the immediate pandemic as, in trying to catch up on services, countries may find that resources are overwhelmed.”"

Active Cases continue to rise, but it looks like the curve is trying to level off.

If we could just get more people to take this seriously maybe we can really get it under control.

Let's hope forcing schools to open in a deadly pandemic does not cause another surge in cases.

Active cases STILL rising.

We still have not reached a peak.

Flashback: DT thought we would peak by Easter.

He thought we could 'open up the economy' then.

We *SO* have to get rid of that fool.

The best thing we could do for America (and the world) at this point is to DUMP TRUMP!

Look!

Another fluctuation in Active Cases.

Are we trying to level the curve?

The last time that happened we almost got control of it and then had another big surge after July 4th.

And here comes Labor Day...

Trump might well have been right.

By ‘active cases’ do you mean positive tests?

Hello Darth,

No. 'Active Cases' is exactly that. Active Cases.

Add up all instances of a positive test. Subtract all instances where someone who tested positive recovered and later tested negative. Also subtract all instances where someone who tested positive ended up dying. PT - NT - D = AC.

This is the best indicator of the spread of the virus.

When we get the virus under control and the spread is limited, the number of Active Cases will fall. Eventually, we would like to see that number go to 0. Nations which have gotten the Coronavirus completely under control have done that. Antigua currently has 0 Active Cases. There are stringent travel restrictions for entering Antigua. You must have taken a test and have a negative result prior to being allowed in the country, and restrictions will be in place for monitoring for 14 days after arrival.

How is Sweden doing?

Hello Darth,

Sweden has been highly criticized for their approach which has resulted in 577 deaths per million.

We will surpass that very quickly. We are now at 574 deaths per million.

....and one step closer to herd immunity just like Sweden! Woot!

...but, as usual, Trump is probably completely wrong. If Trump makes 20 predictions and only one hits as being correct, Trumpeteers cheer it as a complete victory. Everyone else points out, "good, but he was wrong 95% of the time and not to be trusted as a predictor."

Hello Dutch Uncle,

Sweden has 10,110,233 people, and 84,729 Total Cases.

84,729 / 10,110,233 = 0.0083

0.0083 x 100% = 0.83%

You do not achieve 'herd immunity' with fewer than 1% of the population contracting the disease.

Assuming the only factor in herd immunity are COVID antibodies.

Why are the vast majority of cases mild even in people with no COVID antibodies?
