Corona Virus Peak Watch Thread

Haven't been tracking lately Trump has basically been crashing three fully booked Boeing 747s into a mountain every day since March. :palm:

Active Cases are on the rise again. It's hard to tell if the recent peak will stand or turn into just another blip in the overall rising curve.

We were supposed to be trying to 'level the curve.' The measures put into place have been haphazard and often relaxed way too soon to 'level the curve.' This has resulted in an overall rising curve, indicating that we have yet to get the pandemic under control in the USA.

Dr Birx said she wished we had placed a true lockdown into effect, similar to what Italy did. We never did that. Instead, we had some partial shut downs, which were exaggerated and called 'lockdowns' by conservative propaganda peddlers.

What we did has not been enough to control the pandemic, so it is still out of control in the USA.

Sending children back to in-person school, claiming they don't get sick with COVID, and allowing them to go home and infect parents and relatives is not going to get control of the pandemic.

I fear if we see any kind of leveling of the curve in the short term that we will see the rising curve take off again a few weeks after schools begin. Already, several schools which began in-person classes have had to shut down due to explosions of positive cases.

What a disaster.

Our president does not seem to understand that there is no way to get the devastated economy under control until we get the pandemic under control.

You can force schools to open, you can force powerless meat-packing workers to risk their lives, but you cannot force customers to go to businesses where they do not feel safe.

Hello Darth,

... you don’t give a crap; Poli doesn’t give a crap; the majority of the media doesn’t give a crap. If Fauci gives a crap I’ve yet to hear him opine on it.

Btw, where you suppose these immigrants end up if they get sick with COVID?

Since you’d not curious why this isn’t being harped on by the media I’ll tell you: it’s the Round Peg that won’t go in the Square Hole of the ‘it’s Trump fault’ narrative. Worse yet, it’s an implicit argument for tighter border/immigration control. Something Trump ran on and Democrats and many Republicans stood in the way of for three years.

Should the media report on this—in light of what Democrats are advocating this election?

Should we hold our breath?

Townhall.com is a highly biased propaganda peddler. It is normal that the extremely slanted stories they present are not found in the more balanced mainstream media.

It is true that undocumented immigrants are very at-risk for COVID-19. Homeless people face an impossible challenge in social distancing and in practicing safe cleanliness including hand-washing and mask-wearing. They do not have clean safe places to live nor protect themselves.

What is not clear is if infected undocumented immigrants in the USA became infected before they entered the country or after. We know that immigrants cross the border every day in a desperate attempt to reach a better life. We also know that COVID-19 got loose in the USA before undocumented immigrants and political refugees became at-risk for out-of-control infection.

We also know that our economy actually depends on undocumented immigrants. Without them, we would not have all the plentiful food found on the shelves of our American grocery stores. From the produce which is often picked by undocumented migrant farm workers to the meats which are only possible with high capacity meat-packing houses using low paid workers toiling away in brutal jobs without enough testing, protection, distancing or PPE. Regulation is so lax under the current administration that meat packing workers are not even required to be regularly tested for COVID-19.

Agreed on the bias and misleading information in politically extreme websites like townhall.com and on the medical issues you pointed out. Obviously Darth knows very little about medical procedures or biology.

Disagreed depends upon illegal immigrants. Dude, that's the same argument made for slavery. Illegal immigrants are regularly abused and exploited in order to keep the price of lettuce and fruit down a nickel. IMO, it's silly to advocate for a UBI on one hand then justify illegal immigrants with the other.

The relevant numbers came from the border commissioner.

40 thousand active COVID infections picked up coming across our border, in July. I don’t know why the mainstream media doesn’t interview him or report on the numbers. Well, I do actually.

How is it even possible for border states to control community spread when their ‘community’ extends to Tijuana? This is insane.

Maybe you should open a separate thread on it.

But I find your speculations amusing.

Who made an argument for justification? My post merely stated the facts. We are fooling ourselves if we think our economy would be fine if all illegal immigrants could suddenly be rounded up in one hour's time and deported. Our economy would likely be dealt a strong knock. Who would do the work they do? Would crops rot and die without being picked on time? Would livestock have to be euthanized because we suddenly lack the ability to process it that week?

Logically, there should be some kind of legal and well regulated process for workers like that to at least work in the USA, whether they go on to become citizens or not. Why don't we set up employment offices near the border? Let applicants come. If they can get hired then they get a legal status to be in the country and work the job. If capitalism wants to produce these jobs that suck so bad that only really desperate people would take them, then there needs to be a supply of really desperate people.

If we can't get enough Americans to work those jobs, and that's the way those businesses have to be run to put food in the grocery stores at market prices, hiring really desperate workers who will work strenuous repetitive labor jobs at mediocre pay for long hours with no benefits, then why does part of that loop have to be illegal? It doesn't appear to be very well thought out. I mean, if the whole system was forced to be comply with every law all along the chain then food is gonna cost a lot more, right? Is the food on our grocery shelves completely legal, or not?

We might be swallowing more than a meal.

You said the forty thousand were picked up, right?

Then they are not spreading the infection loose in the community. They are in the lock-down.

Agreed. OTOH, everyone here knows a lot about what you don't know regarding medicine, biology, medical protocols and just about anything a candy striper or higher would know about being a healthcare worker.

Dude, you're pegging the needle from one side to the other. The facts seem to indicate everybody who is making money off of illegals wants to see the problem resolved. Yes, even Trump. Any first year soldier knows his wall is, a General Patton put it, a "a monument to stupidity". If our nation wanted to solve the issue, they'd make it illegal to harbor, entice or otherwise encourage illegal immigration including renting to or hiring. Don't try to lock put 13M illegals; just lock up a few thousand employers and apartment managers. That'll get the fucking message across! But that won't happen because neither the Democrats nor the Republicans seem interested in such a solution.

Another main thing they'd have to fix is what you already mentioned; they're filling a niche in the economy. The obvious solution is Immigration Reform but that won't be supported either since too many people are making money off the status quo. It's simple self-interest that prevents change.

Hello Darth,

You said the forty thousand were picked up, right?

Then they are not spreading the infection loose in the community. They are in the lock-down.

The 40k were those they managed to catch. It’s anyone’s guess how many weren’t caught. But this came out in an August 6th press briefing that was attended by national media.

Here is some more from the same article:

Some of the transported illegal immigrants profess that they are ill with Covid while others are found with symptoms, injured from falling off the wall, or wandering lost and dehydrated and later test positive at the hospital, Morgan explained.

"We get to them right away," Morgan said. "And we're taking them directly to the hospital and once they get to the hospital then they're being tested later and we find out they were Covid [positive]."[from prior link]
___________

This should concern anyone who is concerned about COVID. Moreover, I don’t know how it could keep from being *a significant factor* in the Sun Belt spikes. Yet it’s barely being reported.

I wonder why?

Agreed. OTOH, everyone here knows a lot about what you don't know regarding medicine, biology, medical protocols and just about anything a candy striper or higher would know about being a healthcare worker.

Yet they seem to have their hands full with me lol.

Wonder why that is? Btw, is there someone here besides me that has actually taken part in a medical procedure? How many thousands have you been on?

Just curious. I’m pretty sure there’s one retired doctor but he keeps a low profile.

Ummm....that's not what I call it, but you are free to believe whatever you like.

Dude, I think the closest you've been to a "medical procedure" is being told to "pick that up" by a proctologist. You've proved to have little to no knowledge of any related topics. The closest I've been to a medical procedure is gutting game and being the guest of honor.

So, you have no basis from which to say whether I know anything on the topic or not lol.

Why didn’t you just say so?

LOL. Dude, the fact you actually believe that to be true after months of you posting your knowledge of medicine all over this forum is rather amazing, but unsurprising.

Am I supposed to act like I don’t know anything lol?

Have you formally studied the immune system? Some of your comrades don’t believe in herd immunity. What am I supposed to do, let them wallow in their ignorance?
