Corona Virus Peak Watch Thread

Active Cases are back up again, but still not as high as the recent peak seen on August 16th of

2,475,564 Active Cases.

Are we finally beginning to see a 'leveling of the curve' AGAIN?

We began to level the curve a while back, but then we immediately opened back up too soon, so the virus said 'thank you' and took off again.

We cannot say for now if this is IT.

We just have to wait and watch the numbers to know.

I'm curious to see what it is four weeks after the Republican COVID Rally Convention. Two weeks for the delegates and attendees to show symptoms and another two weeks for everyone they infected in the previous week to show symptoms.

There's a good chance that Trump could lose the election in battleground states because his voters 1) can't vote by mail or their mail-in ballot is lost in the mail or 2) they are too sick to vote on Election day.

I have not been paying any attention to the RNC.

I thought they were doing a totally virtual one like the DNC.

Do they have another super-spreader event planned?

I'll pay more attention to that next week.

COVID spreader convention. It should be fucking awesome...especially four weeks afterwards. There might even be a few extra openings in Congress by October. :D

The RNC has posted safety guidelines but you and I know those guidelines will largely be ignored.

Well, I guess we shouldn't be surprised.

Talk about 'not getting it.'

Amazing. Just when you think Trump and his followers could hardly do anything more stupid, he never fails to up the ante. It's hard to imagine how they do not feel stupid, dumb, foolish, embarrassed.

There's always an upside. When faced with a choice(s), it's always best to think about the consequences before making a choice.

When the choice has already been made, such as a COVID pandemic, then instead lamently the decision(s) made, it's often best to look forward at the new choices offered.

In the case of the Republican convention next week, it's done. They've decided and there will be consequences. OTOH, what are the best consequences that could result? More openings in the Senate or the House? Maybe even the Republican nominee? Less Republican voters in tossup states?

I'm not a Pollyanna, but I do like looking at the brightside...at least when it could be 50/50.

It is of course possible but I don't think the odds are that high at all.

Hello Dutch Uncle,

You don't believe COVID-19 is severe enough to cause Republicans a problem after their convention?

Oh, I definitely do. How can we forget Herman Cain, who died from the Tulsa Super Spreader Rally. But the odds of it affecting the candidate are not 50/50.

And I bet they take the precautions / guidelines more seriously this time after what happened as a result of Tulsa. I would expect to see more distancing and masks.

We shall see, of course. That crowd has been pretty slow on the uptake. Should be interesting...

Yesterday was another day over 1000 deaths at 1170 dead Americans, but there is one encouraging figure in the number of Serious or Critical cases. That has dropped below 17,000, which it has not done for a while. This portends a brighter outlook in the immediate future. It follows the Daily New Cases, which has also been thankfully declining overall, remaining below 50,000, down from it's peak of over 75,000 new cases per day on July 24th.
