The article does beg some questions just for clarity....

39 percent of white teens and 37 percent of Latinos reported having abused substances in the past year, compared to 32 percent of blacks and 24 percent of Asians.

When it came to drugs alone, 20 percent of whites, 19 percent of blacks, and 12 percent of Asians reported using.

So whats the difference between "drugs" and "substances" ?
Is it alcohol use alone that is omitted...?


The chart showing arrests of juveniles.....

Its starts before the teen age and leaves out 18 and 19 years olds....WHY?

And if those numbers were included, would it skew the statistics....


And the most relevant issue is......arrests...which El Duderino asked about......

Arrests are for the most part, for possession and selling, NOT USING
The customers are usually the last ones to be arrested for drugs unless they are
also supplying some of the drugs for their friends.....

I would imagine, that dealing with the scum of society, day in and day out; seeing the worst side of people more often than not, takes its toll on ones feelings and personality....I've never met a cop that wasn't a callous asshole either.......

It brings to mind a distant school teacher friend. She was fine for 10 years of teaching middle school but when she was assigned to teach in a high school that resembles a zoo more than a school, this sweet, mild mannered lady changed.....noticeably changed in mood and outlook.....
 
Id call it a few bad apples, as bravo stated they deal with scum day in day out. Gangs etc
Also the do a great job of investigating and prosecuting violent criminals.
They ar woefully underpaid

I guess thats the reason the cops are given the benefit of the doubt in abuse cases....
They are taught to take no shit for anyone, expect immediate obedience from everyone, etc......
this causes trouble with the civilians and is totally unrealistic to think everyone will just fold when confronted....

Generally,..............they're arrogance pisses me off

Maybe I've missed something but it seems that all drugs are being lumped together. There's a world of difference between smoking some weed and taking crack or crystal meth.

I've known a few that weren't total pricks, but most of them burned out early and left the force.

One cop in town was just sent away for beating to death a retarded man who didn't react quickly enough. There are good cops and there are bad cops, and the bad cops need to be removed instead of protected by corrupt unions.

My Uncle Sheriff was a wonderful man who people called "fair", his deputy sheriff was a prick!
