No, I answered your challenge and you purposefully ignore and dismiss the reality because you find it inconvenient. I'm not challenging you, I have already found out the depth of your personal honesty and your capacity for deliberate ignorance. All you add here is an underline and bold on the deliberateness, the absolute choice you have made to ignore racism among those you want to believe are "good" solely by political association.

It is a rather stereotypical tell. Almost every racist will tell you that "some of my best friends are <insert ethnicity here> so I can't be racist!" Because of that the first time I read your post back in the day that literally said those words I thought you were being sarcastic, successfully so. It took a few posts before I figured out you were serious.

If I ran around telling you that "some of my best friends are white"... or how 'bout "some of my best friends are gay" or even "some of my best friends are black"... It is likely that most on this site would think "wow that dude is defensive about what he feels about whites/gays/blacks..."

I have strong opinions about race, "white privilege", white arrogance, folks taking every goddamn thing for granted...but I don't hate white people. There are some black folks I wouldn't be caught in public with, or be caught speaking to...am I then racist against them? No. I have standards. Very few here rise to them. Granted, I'm elitist, "uppity", and "mouthy". Still, I'm no racist...but folks are calling me that to poke holes in my position, to diminish the evidence of my superior intellect...which is the clincher, isn't it? What self-respecting white person , especially a conservative wants to be told by an arrogant black homosexual that he thinks himself better than they are, for various and sundry reasons? A friend of mine explained viewing life through the lens of a black man growing up in America like this-

He said racism and bigotry exist in black neighborhoods-maybe even more then in white ones. But since whites out number blacks seven to one, and have held the majority of positions of power for so long, blacks naturally feel the struggle for equality. And yes, since black communities are only two generations beyond the Civil Rights movement, their memory is still alive to how things used to be. In addition, poverty, which is related to every aspect of struggle for black Americans' reenforces this struggle. Opportunities exist for black Americans, that do not exist for white Americans' such as AA. This idea is seen as a right or an equalizer.

He asked me what I thought when a clerk at a grocery store is rude to me? I said I guess I figure they are having a bad day or they are just a miserable person. He told me a simple, everyday thing like that, I take for granted. He said for the black man the first thought is they are treating him rudely because he is black. I was stunned by this. He said that anytime a black man leaves the confines of his black neighborhood and enters the world of predominately white America, he assumes he will face bigotry due to his being black- even if he has never truly encountered it, he assumes that rudeness is due to his skin color! Imagine? I know that I have been in predominately black areas before and I know I felt suspicion; dislike etc. but as a white person I don't typically have to go to black neighborhoods- whereas black Americans do have to venture out into white America due purely to the fact that most of America is white.

All of this is to say- that I get why poet is so paranoid and accusatory- He filters everything through his presupposition that white people are for the most part bigots and racists. What poet neglects to admit to, is his own prison of bigotry and racism. He comes across like he hates white people- he assumes that only he, a black man, can lay claim over a right to accuse white people of bigotry and racism. That anyone who has an opinion that does not comport to his narrow views is worthy of his scorn and contempt- because he is superior and because no one knows the struggles he has born. poet is a narrow minded self righteous bigot- blinded to his hypocrisy and disdainful of anyone who dares to call him on it. The cure for thinkers like poet? The generations of black Americans who have come after him. The under 30s' especially who don't think the clerk is rude to him because he is black- but because she is having a bad day or she's just a bitch.

You need reminding, in a civilised manner, that what America sees as racism is in fact colour prejudice. Of the five recognised 'races' three are black. Negroid, Capoid and Australoid.
I would say that colour prejudice is worse than racism per se because it is not used as part of human understanding of the world.
It is designed to dehumanise and once we have dehumanised a group of people we can do as we wish to them. Just ask Hitler.

Having been told, by my own family, in so many words, that I wasn't good enough...and that based on my medium brown skin, while my lighter skinned brother was given "carte blanche"...driving lessons, money, and all amenities, including the freedom to go to Michigan for college, where his arrogant "lighter-skin" ass fucked up.
I was relegated to attend college in Houston, where a keen eye could be kept on my wild ass. And after going through the paces, and seeing racism, "up close and personal", on the campus of Univ. of Houston, I dropped out and started working, and eventually landed a college-level position at the Texas Medical Center, where I worked my way up, from the bottom, as an entry level cardiopulmonary tech to certified, on my way to being registered, until racism reared its' ugly head, once more. So, you see, I carry a chip. Big as Texas, on my fucking shoulder....due to the fact that no matter how good one is or becomes, in certain circles, I am, and will never be anything other than just another n-word.
But, I'm special. I know that a whole race of people is not responsible for the actions of a few. So I don't blanket indict all of you...just the ones who feel it their responsibility to dole out just a little bit more of the racism whenever a black person espouses an idea, that was not their own...or when a black person proves to be more intelligent than they could conceive of, or who makes them feel like the pile of shit that they really are.
