Corona Virus Peak Watch Thread

Well, this is bad.

Sunday is usually the low point in the week for New Cases

Yesterday we had 102,000+ New Cases.

Not a good sign.

The trajectory being what it has been the last few weeks, I would not be surprised to see over 150,000 New Cases per day or more this week.

Prepare yourself to hear some big numbers this week.

125,000 New Cases.

Too many people are ignoring the pandemic precautions.

Come on people.

We can be pandemic-free in months if we just act in a coordinated way and stop spreading it.

Look at the numbers today.

Almost 19,000 people in Serious or Critical Condition.

Hello.

The numbers don't lie.

Nothing is being exaggerated or overblown.

This is a real pandemic and it is killing people.

We must take the precautions very seriously.

Be a leader in your circle of friends. Be the first one to start taking it seriously. Others will follow.

Somebody has to take a stand for humanity.

Act now. Turn this around. Stop the dying. Save a life.

I have been reading several accounts with the theme that the doctors think that they know what they are doing finally.

The country is dying, we need to get this done, let-ur-rip!

Serious, Critical 19,374.

That is a leading indicator of deaths to come and it is a high figure.

It is about as high as it has ever been.

I'd have to check back in this thread to see if it has ever been any higher, but I can say from memory that it roughly matches the highest daily figure we have ever seen during the pandemic.

NOT GOOD.

We never reached a peak in Active Cases, but it looks like we are headed for one.

Here's a bad picture. The visual kind of says it all in a glimpse.

The virus discussion has been lost in all the election talk, but it now appears this virus will kill as many or more Americans than the Spanish Flu. I realize that's a raw number, and the percentages were much higher 100 years ago, but there is no excuse for our utter failure during this crisis. This is on the Federal Government and the lack of leadership It is on Trump and his callous disregard for the American people. This is on the Republican Governors who put their political calculation and support of the President ahead of the health and welfare of their citizens. History will look back at this pandemic and talk about the long winter as the darkest time in America. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, but far too many Americans won't survive to see it. We are going to have 200K cases and 2,000 deaths a day before we reach Christmas.

Over here we've just finished a very strict fortnight meant to stop the second epidemic of the lurgy, but we won't get the result for another fortnight. Let's hope it works. We are still not letting the English come in, so it might.

Hello Iolo/Penderyn,

Over here we've just finished a very strict fortnight meant to stop the second epidemic of the lurgy, but we won't get the result for another fortnight. Let's hope it works. We are still not letting the English come in, so it might.

Have the restrictions been dropped in the duration?

I would hope it is a 'wait and see' approach. That would seem wiser.

Funny, we don't use the term 'fortnight' here. I haven't heard it in so long I had to look it up. Thanks for bringing your perspective. I love learning, even if it is something I had previously known and forgotten. I wish I could say learn something once, got it forever; but that isn't the reality. More like use it or lose it.

One of the things that was talked about in the election lead-up was wondering if the difference in the campaign styles would affect the outcome.

The Biden people were all being very considerate to not spread the virus. No door knocking, no large in-person rallies.

The Trump people blew that all off and did the usual ground game.

I think we got our answer.

If the Biden people had conducted an aggressive ground game campaign, the results may have better reflected the polling.

I think a big part of the reason the election results don't match the polling is because of the Biden virtual campaign.

Democrats are going to pay a big price for that because huge Democratic gains down ticket would have given Democrats a bigger say in the redistricting process which only takes place every decade.

Democrats got the poop end of the stick in that process in 2010 because we were in the middle of the big stinkeroo over our health care reform.

And now it has happened again because we didn't want to kill people with a ground game election campaign during a deadly worldwide pandemic.

Silly us!

There is a political price to be exacted for caring about people's well-being.

We've kept quite a lot of rules on. Johnson has been no help whatever. One thing we've done that makes more sense than what's happened in the rest of the UK is abolish public exams for the year, so teacher assessment can take account of local conditions. People are weird, though: one Englishwoman got fined for driving a few hundred miles to come over the border to feed a horse, which was very adequately fed anyway. I didn't know 'fortnight' wasn't common to both countries. I'll have to try some extension of 'se'night' or something else archaic: the countries have been long apart!

Corona killed as many Americans yesterday as the Titanic disaster.

We gotta finish getting the Trump disaster OUT of the WH.
