Corona Virus Peak Watch Thread

History won't be kind to Trump on this.

The "downplaying campaign" in February hurt America in ways that we'll never be able to truly calculate. It's much more than "contained" and "15 down to zero." So much of that led to Fox, talk radio, twitter and the rest to take it a step or steps further, and so many Americans were convinced that this was nothing, or worse, a hoax.

And then there was the misinformation: hyping unproven drugs & treatments, over optimistic predictions for a vaccine timeframe, lysol.

Now, we find out that his admin buried detailed CDC advice. Combine that with taking funding away from WHO - for saying the SAME THING about China that Trump did in January - and Trump himself has set us so far behind the 8 ball on this whole thing.

It's a stunning failure of leadership. It's hard to imagine worse.

Yup, we don’t even have to wait for history!

There is no conclusive evidence masks work.

Forget it, 61....unless you can show definitive proof that front-line medics do not bother with them.

Pull yourself together. There's a deadly pandemic. Hundreds of thousands of Americans have succumbed. Tell Lucifer that you quit.

Hahaha, have you ever been correct?

That’s when THEY said the peak was; and by Easter Sunday WV might have made double digit deaths lol. I don’t recall the number.

How was I wrong? Seems like THEY were wrong. THEY were wrong to lockdown WV in March. THEY had no idea WV would have a significant peak until mid-August. Yet THEY had us lockdown in March/April. THEY caused considerable economic, health and social damage in WV and a lot other places with their lockdown strategy.

THEY have been more wrong than right. And it has been very, very costly.

Hello Dutch Uncle.

That's a very civilized and caring response. I'm not so civilized and much less caring. ;)

Meanwhile, Trump's COVID circle widens:

Wow. It's loose in the WH.

That's just so tragic.

It's not like they weren't asking for it with the pandemic-flaunting behavior, but it's still sad to see it running so rampant there.

I hope everybody pulls through OK.

Hopefully this will serve as a huge wake-up call to all those people who have been using Trump as an example to justify reckless behavior.

I was in a store the other day waiting for the next cashier at the designated socially-distanced waiting spot when I noticed a presence directly behind me. I turned to see a teen boy with a useless mask hanging down on the neck, with his equally improperly 'masked' mother. Or sister. She was so young it was hard to tell. They looked 'scruffy.' No distance. They could not have stood closer without touching me. I said: "Gimme six feet please?" He mumbled something unintelligible, looked away and stood his ground. She did nothing.

I thought of trying to reason with them. I could say nobody would cut line if they backed up, and that the line would go no faster for them standing so close. But the point would be lost. I knew at once there was nothing I could say that would cause them to back up 6'. I turned back to assess my situation in the line. Just then a space opened up and I advanced to the next open register. I couldn't wait to get out of there. Later I found myself wondering why I thought it was so important to be in there. I didn't really need the items I bought that badly.

The next day the news hit that Trump has COVID.

Hopefully now with the president having the disease, some of that behavior may abide. I hope so.

When I think back about the store incident I have to wonder. Did they cut line in front of somebody who had been at the next 6' mark?

I don't know what led up to the moment when I noticed them behind me.

I, too, have noticed a large laxness of mask wearing and social distancing the past two weeks. It'll be interesting to see if there are any changes next week.

I'm against Federal mandates since they are simply using brute force to replace good leadership. The COVID crisis is a failure of leadership on a national scale. People can point fingers at Trump, the fucking moron, but he isn't the main problem. Far too many in Congress supported ignoring the crisis and failed to do their sworn duties. Some still do as I've watched on Fox this morning.

Hello Jarod, Darth,

WV checking in at 5 deaths.

Peak: Easter Sunday.

Hahaha, have you ever been correct?

West Virginia now has 355 deaths with over 16,000 cases.

Cases are still rising there. 283 New Cases yesterday and another death.

I wonder how many people from West Virginia have attended Super Spreader events such as Sturgis. Cell phone tracking shows many who were at Sturgis later turned up in West Virginia.

'LOCK' down?

What was locked?

Was it illegal to leave your home, like they did in Italy?

How many people were arrested for violating the 'lock' down in West Virginia or anywhere else in the USA?

Or perhaps was it really a 'shutdown' of activities which would spread the disease, and vital services remained functioning.

Well don't let that stop you for exaggerating and calling it a 'lock' down,

That's what inmates call being in prison. Being in 'the lockdown.'

I have a hard time believing the West Virginia 'lockdown' was anything like being in prison.

Go ahead and fool yourself all you want. I will be sticking with reality.

Ha Hah Hah Hah Hah Hah Hah.

Hello Jarod,

My fear is that he can get himself to the poll and vote.

That is a good thing.

We want as many Americans voting as possible.

It doesn't matter who they vote for. That is everyone's own decision. The best case is everyone votes who is eligible.

If we want our own side to win then we need to go out and volunteer and campaign. We need to stand up for what we think is right. May the best candidate win. I don't think that happened in 2016, and it might not happen this year either. But that should just serve as more motivation to do the right thing and champion for what we believe in.

Voter suppression is wrong and it hurts America.

I am certain that if we have a very large turn out for the vote, that we will Elect Joe Biden President.

Scary, isn't it- 210,000 dead Americans with millions of extended families and friends all wondering why the tinted tosser is only concerned with covering his ass on his tax avoidance schemes.

That picture creeps me out. It reminds me of Pinhead from the Hellraiser series.

The weaseling won’t work.

Shutdown/lockdown whatever. It cost a lot of jobs; cost kids a bunch of schooling; lost at least one hospital; cost missed diagnoses.

THEY were wrong.

THEY were wrong.

It was a price which had to be paid, and it still is.

The easy solution is for parents stuck at home to school their own children and to be paid by the government in the duration because that's what we have a government for.

People who are fighting the measures and being as foolish as the President was, and are what is prolonging the pandemic.

It never had to be this bad for us.

Other countries with more sensible leadership have fared much better.

Nope.

At the time of the shutdown/lockdown/whatever, the virus wasn’t prevalent in WV AND IN A LOT OF OTHER PLACES.

Proof of that? We opened up and literally nothing changed. It wasn’t until late summer till we had big push in numbers. Well after, the mask mandate.
