Travel bans in general do save lives, but not when you are letting 40,000 through the ban and another 450,000 after that.

New York is on a much more severe shutdown. Floridians and Texans value their freedom more. The Texas and Florida death rates are STILL MUCH lower than the New York death rate is.
Yeah, and they have new cases under 700 while Texas and Florida are about 10 times that.
So how come 4 months after NY, Texas and Florida are seeing 10x NY's current case load?

The NY death rate is from four months ago. There is no reason, other than incompetence and idiocy, why Florida and Texas should be getting higher daily case counts than NY ever had at its peak.
And moving the bar on deaths to the "death rate" I see...this comes after moving the bar from comparing it to the flu.
The only acceptable death rate is ZERO.
The fact that Texas and Florida are killing about 200 people a day each four months after NY isn't a testament to their effort, but a liability to their leadership.
Everyone saw what was happening in NY, and you have actively chose to ignore it and not take any lessons away from it, reaching back to something from four months ago as some sort of defense mechanism for your inability to handle the crisis today.
If NY got it so wrong, how come TX and FL are getting it worse?

Again New York is under a more severe lock down. Plus many New Yorkers fled New York etc when the COVID pandemic was running rampant and took their infected selves to Florida, Texas and other states. Now the infection rates have plateaued and are heading back down.

Floridians & Texans don't value their freedom more. They just seem unable to make the connection that a few basic precautions now, and a few months worth of sacrifice, will allow much greater freedom later - as well as more economic opportunity & better health.
It's strange to me. New Yorkers definitely seem to have more foresight, and a better ability to reason these things out.

But the politicians didn't follow suit.
That's why Texas and Florida are leading the nation in new cases, and why both have now surpassed NY in total case counts.
