Corona Virus Peak Watch Thread

Let's see who Biden ends up choosing for VP. We might at least get someone younger in that position.

Agreed. So far, Biden seems to be making a lot of promises to buy votes; many of which limit him in appointments not by qualifications but by race and/or gender.

True, but it appears that if a person survives it once, they can do so again. Meanwhile, is there any doubt that a vaccine or cure will be developed over the next year? It's mostly a matter of surviving until that time.

I'm sure they'll come up with something. Whether the sheeple will get the vaccine or not remains to be seen. Every time I see a news story about it that allows comments, most of them are negative towards the idea. It's not just the cray-cray "Gates is putting microchips in the vaccine" crowd, either.

Not following your meaning. I do understand that making promises about hypotheticals isn't very scientific nor professional but that doesn't take away from the fact medical agencies all over the world are working on this just like they did for HIV, cancer, Ebola, etc. Time and money (resources) often solve most problems.

My meaning is that even if/when a vaccine for the coronavirus is created, there are many Americans who will not get it. So that doesn't do a damn thing for the promised "herd immunity."

That's their choice. It's like the flu shot or stopping smoking. The point of freedom is to create choices, not mandate actions.

I'm fine with whatever choice they make. The point is though that there will be no herd immunity if too many ppl refuse to be vaccinated. Personally I won't be lining up to be one of the first, until we see 1) if it's truly effective, and 2) what the side effects, if any, are. I do want to be free to travel again so if getting the shot means that I can, I'll do it.

Those who refuse vaccinations will either get sick and die or get sick and survive. Either way, problem solved.

If the standards for approving vaccines are shortcut for political reasons, I agree on waiting for the guinea pigs to go first. If the same standards used for other vaccines are upheld, I'll be happy to line up for the shot.

Hello Dutch Uncle,

Thanks. Awesome but so what? I used to be a hotshot Marine Corps pilot, now I'm retired and building kayak trailers and cleaning out my hangar. Times change. Biden would make an excellent elder statesman, but he's too old to be President. Same for Trump, Bernie and Warren.

If he makes a smart VP choice the age issue goes poof.

Hey, we've already got a few months to the good on that one. I can hang in there a lot longer. I hope others can too. It is bothersome to see so many acting like it's all over and not even trying.

How can we win a war when people are not even willing to fight it?

I think what you are seeing is a classic case of national denial. In truth, most won't be affected personally. They might lose an elderly parent or Aunt/Uncle, but that's it. They're more concerned about themselves than anyone else. It's the national culture.

BTW, it's not a Left or Right thing since both sides are selfish about their goals. Democrats don't give a fuck about certain rights but become very upset about others just like the Republicans. The national culture is one of bullying, braggadocio and self-serving actions. "Fuck you, I got mine" is a common motto. Again, too many on both sides do it. They don't give a fuck what anyone who disagrees says.

Hello Dutch Uncle,

It would certainly alleviate the problem to have a solid VP, but why vote for someone who has a high probability of running a second term and a good probability of not finishing his first one?

Don't the political parties have qualified, highly experienced candidates who are healthy and young enough to run two terms?

Frustrating, isn't it?

I think that's because people who are smart enough to do a really great job of president are also smart enough to not take it. Talk about a stressful job!

We just need somebody who is that qualified to also realize that if they don't step in and save the country, nobody else is going to do it.

I bet that's what Biden was thinking. He took a long time to make up his mind.

You know that's what Bloomberg thought. He took too long.

True. A problem for any political office: very few want to do it and those that do shouldn't be allowed to do so.

I think Biden was simply being smart enough to not leap into the fray two years before the election.

Bloomberg was doomed because of his track record, not his timing.

Bloom berg would have done much better if he had gotten in in a timely fashion.

Houston is surging, Mayor Turner and Judge Hildago are frustrated because their easing back into opening was foiled by Abbott. Now their hands are tied. Hospitals are readying for more cases.
