Silent Sam' is down: Protesters topple Confederate statue on UNC campus

The Governor of NC disagrees with you. as does the University....
"Tonight's actions were dangerous, and we are fortunate that no one was injured. We are investigating the vandalism and assessing the full extent of damage."

Nothing will be done.
They are too embarrassed that they let it stand all these years.
There will be some pearl clutching and some finger wagging but nothing will be done.

It is one more step forward in the responsible maturation of our nation. It is to be celebrated by all Americans.

I says a lot (that's good) about the younger generation that they are no longer willing to tolerate these symbols. That being said, did they try to have the statue removed by less, shall we say, energetic methods first?

getting rid of statues to losers/traitors certainly is.
but it's not...nothing this morning is any different than it was last night....but the messy campus and kids in trouble....
I finally watched part of the video...that was even more embarrassing to that group than I thought it would be...

Good answer;) Until that happens, though, I'll make sure to counsel kids against those who believe as you do... you're welcome....

Thankfully you have little to no contact with "kids," who aren't going to listen to your ancient racist ways and desire to protect the (white) establishment at all costs, anyways.

you are trying to ignore reality. Blacks will walk past that site and smile now. It is an indication of your racism that that doesnt matter to you. The idea that somehow you all of a sudden care about law and order is bullshit.

Good point. Keep in mind that the one you are responding to has referred to inner city students as "thugs." We all know what dog whistle that's for.

It took students rioting and occupying campus buildings in the 60s/70s, among other things, to finally end the draft. Our young people today will be the eventual waning -- and hopefully the end -- of racism as well.

No, I'm not...the majority of students there have much more important things to smile about.
I always smile when someone refers to me as a racist. That "accusation" would make those who know me, especially students and teachers, smile*as well,‘ and laugh out loud;)

There have attempts to remove this unhealed sore of the south racist past since the 1960s. Racist scum always managed to block the removal citing "historical significance".
The kids of UNC taught them all a lesson in "historical significance".
Didn't they.

I hope the pedestal to the statue is allowed to stand as a reminder of what was done by these brave and honorable kids.

When are they going to have "tar heels" changed? I'll check back later to see if anyone has an answer...all those kids last evening...proud "Tar Heels";) Right?

Yes, they did. Thanks for the history.

There are a lot of notable NC citizens who would be better honored by a statue. Well, maybe not Andrew Jackson.
