Every green initiative has been a disaster

Renewables like wind do not replace fossil fuel, dispatchable power like CCGT is still needed to provide a baseload. Gas is easily the cheapest way to produce electricity and it has also resulted in CO2 emissions returning to 1994 levels.

Wrong twatburger
In this country nukes and Hydro provide a cushy 26% baseload. When enough windmills are online they cover themselves.

The Germans are finally seeing the true scale of the Energiewende disaster.

"This winter could go down in history as the event that proved the German energy transition to be unsubstantiated and incapable of becoming a success story. Electricity from wind and solar generation has been catastrophically low for several weeks. December brought new declines. A persistent winter high-pressure system with dense fog throughout Central Europe has been sufficient to unmask the fairy tale of a successful energy transition, even for me as a lay person.

This is a setback, because many people had placed high hopes in the Energiewende. I likewise never expected to see large-scale solar arrays and wind turbines, including those offshore, motionless for days on end. The data compiled by Agora Energiewende on the individuals types of electricity generation have recorded the appalling results for sun and wind at the beginning of December and from the 12th to 14th:

9eb28b766df5148e279e9b1b7445dfa1.jpg

Of power demand totaling 69.0 gigawatts (GW) at 3 pm on the 12th, for instance, just 0.7 GW was provided by solar energy, 1.0 by onshore wind power and 0.4 offshore. At noontime on the 14th of December, 70 GW were consumed, with 4 GW solar, 1 GW onshore and somewhat over 0.3 offshore wind. The Agora graphs make apparent that such wide-ranging doldrums may persist for several days.

You do not need to be a technician, an energy expert, or a scientist to perceive the underlying futility of this basic situation. You simply need common sense, shelving expectations and prognoses for a moment, while extrapolating the current result to future developments. Let us suppose that today’s wind and solar potential could be tripled by 2030, allowing almost all of the required energy to be obtained from these two sources under normal weather conditions. This is an extremely optimistic scenario and certainly not to be expected, because current policy is slowing down the expansion of renewable energy sources rather than accelerating it."

It was an analysis. 20 yrs is a long time, but basically the article factored in the costs and extra energy needed to recycle along with other resources needed and used .
Bull fucking shit.

Iron is the most recycled element on the Earth. It is abundantly cheaper to recycle than mine, transport and reduce ore.

Sweden actually incinerates a lot of its waste and use it to heat houses rather than recycling it. They are so efficient that they even import rubbish from other countries.

No thanks.

Read the thread, I already posted plenty on the subject right here.
If you have any specific questions I will be glad to answer them for you.

You haven't posted much of value for years now. Seriously, show me. If you were half the brainiac you think you are you'd realize that energy generation isn't the problem, storage is. Windmills and the rest of that bullshit is a red herring, it's a shiny bead meant to make dumb fucks like you think you're smart and relevant.

You obviously didn't read the thread.
I posted about Crescent Dune, a solar facility with 10 hours of storage..

Rune is banging on about Crescent Dune again, what a putz!! This is a solar plant with a nameplate capacity of 110 MW and a capacity factor of 16%. Which means in practice that it is barely able to produce 20MW continuously. Does anybody think that's a good investment for a billion dollars?

What is the actual cost of a new nuke in the US?
Who will take responsibility for the spent fuel? Not the Feds as they did in the past.

Duke Energy are reporting they have brought the cost of CCGT power stations down to less than $1000/MW, contrast that with Crescent Dune which is around $50,000/MW. Anyone with half a brain can see that the economics are just off the scale, only climate zealots can justify those costs.

Another wonderful day of trolling global warming?
Not that lawyers like you care, they are used to gouging their clients anyway. How is it trying to point out the economic facts of life trolling ffs? The government subsidised that white elephant to the tune of $731 million, nobody in their right mind would build that with private money.

Christopher Booker has been writing about energy issues for many years, he is usually right but very occasionally wrong.

translation: Booker was proven DEAD WRONG on this subject, and has been DEAD WRONG on it for MAN YEARS. Milagro just doesn't like it, and can't just flat out accept it without trying to save face. Booker's right wing bias permeates ALL of his writings, but I'm sure that like the proverbial broken clock, he has be right at least twice in his career.

SOLYNDRA

argument over

Excuse me? ONE corrupt business DOES NOT disprove the science behind the climate change effect and how our industrial nations contribute negatively to that. But I seriously doubt that you have the courage to apply your "logic" to the NUMEROUS corrupt entities in the coal and nuclear industry that have been documented throughout recent history.

You do love your labels, don't you? Christopher Booker was one of the founders of Private Eye, the scourge of the Establishment. You've probably never heard of it!! I also love the way you've declared definitely that he is wrong without providing any kind of evidence other than your own belief.
