Individual mandate shot down

Well said Darla. The individual mandate is a pro-business concept and Repubs only opposed it when Obama adopted it as a compromise versus having a public option.

Politically speacking the far reaching consequences of the this decision are profound. There's no going back now. If nothing else inertia will keep HC reform rolling. However, the aspects of ACA which have been implementd are already quite popular (ending pre-existing condition exclusion and allowing parents to keep adult children on their insurance till 25), as other aspects of ACA are implemented they will become very popular too. The question being, what will be the backlash on Repubs for their stiff oppostion? Will there be a significant price to be paid by Republicans down the lane?

That's what it's all about.

Common sense and logic ruled the day. :cheer:

I hope so.

except that it WAS ruled unconstitutional as an extension of the commerce clause, it was upheld as a tax (you know, that thing Obama said it was then wasn't)
Again. Not accurate. 4 of the ascenting Justices concured that it was constitutional under the CC. They also agreed with Roberts that it's constitutional as a tax. Which moots the CC point.

What about Dewey defeats truman? I didn't see it! Are you the guy on twitter who wrote it? LOL I guess more than one person thought of it. I hadn't and it struck me as funny.

No, I put it in Jarod's thread when I was pointing out that CNN had it wrong.

I would have prefered the Japanese system.

I'd prefer if they studied both and mixed a bit. But yeah, I would prefer either of those to the British system. What I like about the German system is you can choose to self-cover if you have the means. However if you pass a certain age that way you can never go back...

liberals today if bill struck down:

"5-4 decision! rigged, totally political! conservatives have hijacked the court!"

After it's been upheld:

"yup, that's the correct decision, glad to see the court is sticking to the truth. im so happy!"

What I like about the Japanese system is the extremely detailed reporting requirements for hospitals/clinics and the extremely precise manor in which they use that information to develop a very exacting pricing schedule for just about every procedure and modality. That goes a looooong way towards controling cost as they won't pay for defensive medicine and procedures/modalities that are not of proven benefit.

As I've said in many other threads on this issue. This clears the way for the US to implement the three concepts of HC reform shared by all modern industrialized nations. Universal Coverage, Single payer standardization and cost controls. I'm sure that what ever system we eventually develop it will implement, in some form, these three basic concepts. Todays decision clears the way for that.

i honestly hate the proles that have done this. I hate the assholes that have diseases and think they should be getting a handout from insurance companies. I hate the sick and lame demanding my money. I hate the rich old people expecting me to still subsidize their healthcare costs. I really wish the sick poor proles would just fucking die. I want them all dead. These money grubbing wallet rapers are our enemies. and they will never stop.

Dig a little deeper in your pocket, Grind. I'm sure you'll find a few pennies you don't need. :)
