Zimmerman Bullied and Targeted Co-Worker with Racist Jokes, Witness Says

i don't get it. did he bowl with a black man due to his racist views?

He liked this particular guy, and the man was good bowler, one on one he was fine with blacks, as a whole he didn't care for them. My oldest daughter went to prom with her friend who was black and Ken gave me hell about it for the longest time.
I could never figure it out. He was one of those who believed you should keep to your own kind, I use to tell him, she does date her own kind, humans!

that is weird. i've never known anyone like that. hate someone for their skin color, but accept them for their bowling skills. i really don't get why people hate others based solely on skin pigment. it makes no sense. i can understand dislike based on cultural differences, doesn't mean i agree with the the dislike, but i can understand it. dislike based solely on skin pigment is barbaric. IMHO.

So we have Zimmerman, who has been charged and will have his day in court... and we have a liberal posting "Zimmerman Bullied and Targeted Co-Worker with Racist Jokes, Witness Says" among the many liberals publicly condemning the man on a regular basis. So am I to take this to mean, liberals have some different idea of how justice is supposed to work in America? This isn't Survivor or The Apprentice, you know? You are guaranteed a constitutional right to a fair trial... is it fair to determine judgment of whether Zimmerman is guilty of a crime here, based on his past actions? If someone accuses YOU of a crime, is it okay for them to dig up all kinds of unrelated incidents in your past, and use them to convict you in the court of public opinion? Or would that be WRONG?

Isn't his dad a retired judge or somesuch?

It doesn't matter! It makes no difference if Zimmerman's dad was a judge, or his mother was a whore, or he told off-color jokes around the water cooler, or his great-great-grandpa owned slaves. It doesn't matter if Treyvon was a democrat, or had a golden halo above his head, or preached like MLK, or looked like Obama's son! This case has nothing to do with ANY of that, and it shouldn't be decided on those details. All that matters, are details pertaining to the events of that evening, and the shooting incident itself. If they aren't related to that, they shouldn't even be mentioned here.

We have a very important and fundamental principle in play here. Any man is entitled to a fair and impartial trial by a jury of his peers, and should never be condemned on the basis of his race, religion, gender, or creed. He also shouldn't be found guilty on the basis of stereotypes, perception or image, but rather pertinent details regarding the crime he is charged with. The fact that some people in our country, are apparently now so openly comfortable with 'Trial by Personality', like we are some kind of fucking reality game show, is beyond me. Can people just not shut up and let the trial happen?

Of course you don't.

I think the former Judge's kid would have been given a walk regardless of the race of the person. I also think that had the person been white it would have been more difficult to get the newsies to make a huge deal of it, it may have died without a second look.

Although, if the person was white I doubt the newsies would try to make him into a "white hispanic". He clearly isn't white.

You're probably correct.

My understanding is that "Hispanic" is not a race, but an ethnicity.

"racial categories included in the census questionnaire generally reflect a social definition of race recognized in this country and not an attempt to define race biologically, anthropologically, or genetically. In addition, it is recognized that the categories of the race item include racial and national origin or sociocultural groups. People may choose to report more than one race to indicate their racial mixture, such as “American Indian” and “White.” People who identify their origin as Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish may be of any race."

Zimmerman is clearly lighter-skinned than his victim.

All "races" are ethnicities.

And he is clearly darker skinned than a white guy. It is stupid to try to make a Latino into a white guy because the victim is black.

It would be equally stupid to make a white Hispanic "non-white" because his victim was Black, wouldn't it?
White Hispanic and Latino Americans are citizens and residents of the United States who are racially White and ethnically Hispanic or Latino.

Given the evidence of Zimmerman's history of finding Black males "suspicious", do you think he was justified in following Trayvon Martin?

Ken was a character.

Given the fact that he met the descriptions of people who had been burglarizing his neighborhood, do you think it reasonable to simply want to know where he was going?

Do you think that following him contrary to established neighborhood watch practices and advice from a 911 dispatcher fits the description of "simply want(ing) to know where he was going"?

Yes. I think that following the established practices had led to many unsolved crimes in the area. We've already established it wasn't illegal and I can understand how a reasonable person could pursue that course, tragic conclusion notwithstanding.
