Ukraine formally applies for fast-track NATO membership

Ukraine has formally applied for NATO membership under an accelerated procedure, President Volodymyr Zelensky said after Russia added four Ukrainian regions to its soil.

“Today, Ukraine is submitting an application to do this de jure... We are taking our decisive step by signing Ukraine’s application for accelerated membership in NATO,” the Ukrainian leader said via Telegram.

The development came soon after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree for the formal accession of four regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia to Russia, after people in these regions voted in favor of joining the Russian Federation in a referendum.

However, Zelensky said the votes breached international law and called the referendums “worthless.”

“Donbas is and will be Ukrainian. This is our land, our people. We will never give ours to the occupiers,” he said.

“De facto, we have already made our way to NATO. De facto, we have already proven our compatibility with the alliance’s standards. They are real for Ukraine – real on the battlefield and in all aspects of our cooperation,” Zelensky wrote.

But American's who say that what goes on in Ukraine is 'vital to American national defense'?
Or some other, neocon nonsense?
Imo, have little/to no idea what they are talking about on this issue.
They appear to be just buying whatever the MSM feed them (as per usual).

What you are hearing from the MSM is NOT the whole story.
They are obviously trying to 'fire up everyone'.
To get their ratings up for higher ad revenues.

And not one of you can factually, prove otherwise.
Now, I cannot factually prove they are.
But the fact they are not reporting the complete news and are taking a incredibly, biasedly position on this (as news people are not supposed to do).
Gives far more credence to my position on this.

The American government should not be sending weapons to Ukraine (or any other nation).
Maybe humanitarian aid.
But nothing else.
It's their problem.
Let them solve it.

When Gorbachev took down the Wall NATO assured the Russians that it would not expand eastward. Who is the aggressor here ?

So your answer is yes, if the Ukraine folds, Putin will march on, Moldavia is obviously next, easy pickings, what do you think, the Baltic States after that?

No- I don't believe any of that NATO 'Russian hegemony ' scaremongering. I see NATO as an extremely dangerous protection racket - ( the current situation bears that out ) - which has chosen the path of schism and war instead of world unity. I see Russia defending its borders from NATO threat in accordance to the means available to it in order to confine the conflict to Ukraine with the aim of it ending there.
NATO needs to stand down and not stoke the war any further. Biden has destroyed the Nord Stream projects - so call it a victory for US commerce and fuck off home now. Unfortunately, NATO will currently be weighing the odds of a first strike. These people are insane.

The situation in Moldova isn't clear at present- except that there is a Russian presence there already.
 
Zelensky would have been asking for NATO membership back in January if the Russians hadn't headed him off at the pass. Now let's hope that NATO sticks to ITS OWN RULES and doesn't admit him. Biden is a crazy old man but there are more level heads in NATO countries which we HOPE will block Zelensky- and save us from WW3.

Russia cannot even defeat Ukraine.
It can't, even come close (especially with the West, GIVING Ukraine, hundreds of billions of dollars in weapons/money/stuff that our tax dollars paid for).

So how on Earth is it going to a) conquer ALL of Ukraine?
And b) then invade Moldova (I assume that is what you mean by 'Moldavia' - as the latter no longer exists)?
Also c) why would it invade Moldova?
It's a tiny country with just over 3 million people, few natural resources and their GDP is ranked 143'th in the world.

The only things that should interest America militarily (imo)?
Would be if there was MAJOR, genocide going on (like in Rwanda in 1994).
And - despite the MSM's best efforts to say the contrary - there is NO, MAJOR genocide going on Ukraine.
Putin has never shown any interest in systematically, eliminating Ukrainian's from existence.
And neither Moldova nor Ukraine are part of NATO (which I think should have been disbanded after the Cold War ended - but whatever).

Biden is clearly desperate to distract the voters from the lousy economy.
But there is no, practical reason for America to take ANY, direct interest in what goes on in Ukraine or Moldova.
Let alone get directly involved.
It is their business, thousands of miles from our shores and they are not even in NATO.

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has reacted to Ukraine's decision to file an expedited application to join NATO, saying Kiev's efforts to join the Western military alliance should be taken up “at a different time.”

Sullivan made the remarks at a press briefing on Friday, pouring cold water on Ukraine's desire to join NATO after it formally applied for membership under an accelerated procedure. “The United States has been clear for decades that we support an open-door policy for NATO,” Sullivan said.

“Any decision on NATO membership is between the 30 allies and the countries aspiring to join.”

"Right now, our view is that the best way for us to support Ukraine is through practical, on-the-ground support in Ukraine and that the process in Brussels should be taken up at a different time," Sullivan said.

Self determination isn’t aggression. Except for the currently Russian occupied region, where the picture is clouded, Ukraine certainly has made it clear it wants its independence.

You wrote a post literally one day before the invasion practically giving your guarantee that Putin wouldn't invade Ukraine.

That undermines your guarantees that Putin has no further territorial ambitions.

Putin can't invade Georgia or Moldava to tomorrow or next week. But I don't believe any guarantees that he never will,given his track record of attacking neighbors.
