Kerpatenko was a native of Kherson. He was a Russian speaker, and also a Ukrainian patriot. He was the chief conductor of the Kherson Orchestra... Not a soldier. He did not fight, but also refused to play at Putin's "International Music Day" festival to show how happy Kherson was to be under Russian occupation. For that refusal to play, Putin sent Russian Special Services to "talk" to him at his apartment, and then later to shoot him with a machine gun for refusing to play.
Kherson was liberated two months too late to save Kerpatenko's life, but we should always remember him.
