Younger Democrats have soured on capitalism

No young person wants to be part of Trump's fascism.

This just isn't true.

There is overwhelming evidence that Trump has massive support from young people, especially young white men.

Furthermore, there is allot of evidence that the youth people most likely to support Trump are also the youth most motivated and like to register and vote.

I ignore posts with nothing but links. Say something or be ignored.

The failure of government run grocery stores.
Private grocery businesses will continue to run.

"Some cities have also tried opening their own stores, often in underserved or rural areas, though these initiatives have seen mixed success and can be financially challenging."
The failure of public transit.
What failure are you talking about?
The failure of relying on police to keep you safe.
No clue what you are talking about.
The failure of... Everything Mandani wants to do in NYC has been tried repeatedly and failed every single time.
Can't list any more?

He's got the special code though. They always do. Just before ignorant folks who reject learning from history vote them into office and they proceed to turn riches into their own bank account leaving the proles to fight rats for food.

I always think of this article with regard to repeating history via insanity.

I have always rejected the idea that the choices are capitalism or communism, or some form of socialism.

There is a system we haven't thought of yet, but I believe in the future, we will. None of the current economic systems are sustainable or fair.
For the sake of discussion, what kind of principles would this new system need to be sustainable and fair?

Every system has flaws. "Fair" means different things to different people, so any new systems would still come with trade offs.

Maybe. Not much to base that on, though, since we don't know what lies ahead.

Do you think this is sustainable? The gap between the wealthy & everyone else has been steadily widening for decades, and the wealthy control more & more of the nation's wealth w/ each passing year.

Inequality is an issue. The catch is the only systems that bring people close to equal usually do it by making everyone poor, except for the rulers.

The push for equality isn't new. Marxism and socialism promised it too, but the results speak for themselves.

We can look at China which tried what some called a new approach. There wasn't much of a wealth gap for years because everyone was poor. They moved toward state sponsored capitalism and the country is much richer, but their wealth gap is also widening.

In NYC there really aren't any food deserts so any government grocery store will be in competition with private ones.
What failure are you talking about?

To run at least at a break-even cost
To be safe for passengers in many cases
To be time efficient for riders
To not be readily accessible 24/7
That's for starters.
No clue what you are talking about.

The Left loves gun confiscation and control. The Left is against stand your ground laws and even self-defense. They expect you to call the police and let law enforcement take care of whatever the problem is.

Sure I can...

These are some more of the fails of the Left and Socialism all of which Mamdani proposes to do.

Rent control and rent "freezes"
Public housing (aka "The Projects")
Heavy to excessive taxation of "The Rich" to pay for everything.
"free" public transit
"free" child care
Taking public control of all utilities

Marxism & socialism fail because they run counter to the human spirit.

But capitalism is failing because it creates such inequity & unfairness of outcome.

Capitalism definitely creates uneven outcomes but it's also lifted more people out of poverty and created more prosperity than any other system.

Inequality is real, it's also a trade off for a system that rewards innovation. The strength of capitalism is it gives people a chance to rise, even if the outcomes aren't equal.

It’s nice to imagine a system with all the upside of capitalism and less inequality. But once you factor in human nature, that’s probably always going to be just a dream.

In NYC there really aren't any food deserts so any government grocery store will be in competition with private ones.
"Food deserts in NYC are low-income neighborhoods, such as parts of the Bronx, Harlem, Coney Island, and Queens, where residents lack access to affordable, healthy food and large supermarkets. These areas are characterized by a scarcity of full-service grocery stores and an abundance of bodegas, which often offer unhealthy options. This lack of fresh, affordable food leads to higher rates of diet-related illnesses like obesity and diabetes in these communities."

Again, the private grocery businesses will continue to run. No loss there.

That doesn't answer my question. You said there's history of failures that he will repeat.
What are the examples?
The Left loves gun confiscation and control. The Left is against stand your ground laws and even self-defense. They expect you to call the police and let law enforcement take care of whatever the problem is.
No they don't. They want to address the problem of AR-15s. The right embraces AR-15s and doesn't want to address the problem.

These discussions are always interesting. I don't really disagree w/ what you're saying, and consider myself a capitalist & beneficiary of capitalism.

But my comments are more from a practical level. It's just not sustainable given the trends. It's not a stretch to extrapolate the trends we have seen for decades, and realize that we're heading toward a future where there are a figurative handful of billionaires & trillionaires, and everyone else is paycheck to paycheck or worse.
