This is probably one of best new ideas to come out of congress in years!

I absolutely applaud this idea and wish Congressman Cantor well...I am participating and so should anyone who would like to shrink government spending!

I'm on board for all but option #2, mainly because it does not (at least the way you've presented it) distinguish between a federal secretary and a person serving in the military. I'm very on board for #4 though.

Youcut is fucking stupid. It's like the Republicans just gave up and said "hey, we're like out of ideas and have exactly zero interest in developing any sort of policy objectives and no real vision for the future of the country so let's farm it out."

What a joke.

Back away from it. Life is a series of choices. If you want to be "fucking stupid" in your own way, we are entirely happy to let you.

The joke is that you think there is some Democratic vision that has remotely anything to do with being good for the people.

What a joke? It's funny quite frankly, but when you "baaaa" like that and wag your tail, it's downright hysterical!

You don't think it's just a little bit silly that the Republican leadership are farming out policy decisions to majority vote on the internet?

I mean, at least with the Contract with America the Republican leadership had the balls to say what their vision for America was and what they wanted to do, like it or not. The current crop of Republicans are a laughingstock by comparison.

These are the ideas I just submitted to Congressman Cantor:

End the Iraq War
End the Afganistan War
End Corporate Welfare
Cut Pentagon Spending by at least 50%

End Congressional Pensions and replace them with 401(k)s

End government funded healthcare for congressmen, and make them get private healthcare plans on the internet or free market.

Allow medicare and medicaid to bargain for importation of cheaper Canadian pharmaceuticals.

Stop spending money on celibacy-only programs.

Make every congress person who voted for the Iraq War apologize, and promise to pay for the cost of the war, and the healthcare of maimed veterans, out of their own pockets. That would save taxpayers trillions of dollars over the long term.

Wow.... I actually....agree.....with you?

Do those words work together like that? I need a beer to wash the taste of them out of my mouth.

Except for the last one, I'm not on board with that (mainly because I know it's impossible).

These are the ideas I just submitted to Congressman Cantor:

End the Iraq War Submit this idea to Obama, not Cantor
End the Afganistan WarSubmit this idea to Obama, not Cantor
End Corporate WelfareSubmit this idea to Obama, not Cantor
Cut Pentagon Spending by at least 50% Actually, defending America is governments #1 duty...

End Congressional Pensions and replace them with 401(k)s Go for it...

End government funded healthcare for congressmen, and make them get private healthcare plans on the internet or free market. Go for it...

Allow medicare and medicaid to bargain for importation of cheaper Canadian pharmaceuticals. Go for it...

Stop spending money on celibacy-only programs. Saving 20 to 30 cents aint't that important....

Make every congress person who voted for the Iraq War apologize, and promise to pay for the cost of the war, and the healthcare of maimed veterans, out of their own pockets. That would save taxpayers trillions of dollars over the long term.
Would be too hard on the Dem. elites....

What a joke.

That's right Nigel, it's fucking stupid to allow American's to vote on where they'd like to see congress make spending cuts...I mean like how fucking stupid to involve American tax payers!... One things for certain, nothing the American tax payer could do could ever be as stupid as you constantly opening your mouth and swallowing your head~~~

Now, some of this is just politics. That’s the nature of Washington. Before I was even inaugurated, there were leaders on the other side of the aisle who got together and they made the calculation that if Obama fails, then we win.

Right. That was the basic theory.

They figured ‘if we just keep on saying no to everything and nothing gets done, then somehow people will forget who got us into this mess in the first place and we’ll get more votes in November’, and, you know, that will make people pretty cynical about politics.

In Washington, nearly a decade of tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires led to little more than sluggish growth, a shrinking middle class, your paychecks flat-lined.

Wages and incomes did not go up.

Even when the economy was growing, it wasn’t growing for you and for all the party’s moralizing about fiscal discipline, because it is true that part of what we inherited is a real significant problem in terms of spending at the federal level, the economic policies they put in place turned a $237 billion surplus into a $1.3 trillion deficit.

So you know, there were a couple of signs when I came in, said, you know, do something about spending.

I’m game to do something about spending, but let’s just remember how we got into this fix.

Now, I’ve never believed that government has all the answers.

That’s now how America thinks.

Government can’t and should not replace businesses as the engines of growth and job creation in our economy.

Government should live within its means.

We should root out waste and abuse of taxpayer dollars wherever and whenever we can.

Too much regulation can stifle competition and hurt businesses.

But if you think about the history of this country, we’ve always recognized that there are times when only government has been able to do what individuals couldn’t do and what corporations would not do.

That’s how we have railroads and highways and public schools and police forces.

That’s how we’ve made possible scientific research that led to the medical breakthroughs and technological wonders that all of us take for granted now.

That’s why we have Social Security and a minimum wage and laws to protect the food we eat and the water we drink and the air we breathe.

That’s why we have rules to ensure that mines are safe and that oil companies pay for the spills that they cause, and there have always been those who said no to these policies and these ideas.

I agree with all of these except Week 2. Exempt the military and low level employees (say, below $75k) and I will be onboard with this one too.

I think a 50% cut is too much, but the rest I agree with.
