Trump has the POWER to declassify anything he wants but there is a REQUIRED process beyond him just taking it, or saying 'it is declassified' or tweeting 'it is declassified'.
It is Trumps own White House, under his direction who went to Court to establish and PROVE Trumps words or writing alone WITHOUT the REQUIRED follow thru of the process of him instructing the departments to follow thru and declassify them, does not mean shit.
Trump sent Mark Meadows in to Court and WH lawyers in to court, 3 times when he said on a TV interview or in Twitter 'I declassified the following doc's' and then the Media immediately said 'great, we now present this FOIA request and want to view them'. The Trump team argument that won in court in all 3 instances below, was that Trumps words alone or writings alone (Twitter) do not declassify shit.
The judge ruled Trump's team was correct and WITHOUT the necessary follow thru by Trump to actually instruct the departments to declassify them, nothing was in fact declassified. Media denied.
It is Trumps own White House who prove that a lie based on precedent. Mark Meadows and Trumps own WH counsel, he sent in to court 3 times to say
- 'even when Trump says something is declassified or writes something is declassified, it is not UNLESS Trump and the WH actually follow thru and do the REQUIRED process to actually declassify them. If we do not, then all the material remains classified'.
Read that again and understand it. Trump had his own team go in to court 3 times to stop journalists getting material via FOIA that Trump had stated on TV or wrote on Twitter that he had declassified them. In all 3 court cases when the Trump admin did not want to hand that material over to the media, they argues successfully in court that Trumps words alone or writing alone was not in FACT sufficient to declassify them. And they WON in court all three times. The court found none of them were declassified and the media could not have them.
That is with clear statements from Trump they were declassified but with no process follow thru they were not.

The essence of a witch hunt, is searching for something that does not exist.
So 'no charges ever made against anyone' in the republican investigations of Dems is be definition, a witch hunt. A futile investigation doomed to never find anything and thus not justifiable.
The investigations into the Republicans, in fact yielded tons of witches. Tons of criminality found, charged and convicted. So the claim they were with hunts from the beginning was false to make. If you find witches (criminality) it is by definition justified.
