Not the fact he visited, but that he made the tragedy political, Bush didn’t go to NYC and publicly blame Democrats for 9/11 nor did Obama travel to NJ and start blaming Christie, not what Presidents do in times of tragedy, especially if they were just elected and a want to unite Americans

I'm not defending him but that's his schtick. It's what keeps him in the news. He takes up all the oxygen.
It's how he defeated HRC who almost seemed like a sideshow, and how he was almost constantly in the news all during the Brandon regime which hid the figurehead president. It's how he became only the second president to get reelected after losing.
It somehow works for him.
