More general scenario: If 100000 people gather together to protest against something, how can you judge the nature(or the main theme) of the event? You may think that judging from people's slogans.
But the fact is often very cruel: the nature of the event depends on the person interviewed by media such as BBC, CNN, and Reuters.
It doesn't matter how many people gather outside the room. The person interviewed by Western media in the room determines how you foreigners view this event.
Yes, the videotape of his selflessness, his martyrdom, his sacrifice, his courage turned him into a symbol.
We just had a 300,000 person protest at our capitol. The message was we support Israel.
I agree, the media does try to shape the narrative. One has to sort thru several sources to decipher the truth. Do you have freedom of the press or just one news source?
