NAFTA 2 is basically Trump slapping his name on work that Obama did.

Very little has changed with the tweaking of NAFTA. The bones of the deal remain.

No...they just increased the percentage of the amount of a car built in north America is by a nominal amount of about 5%. So before, 60% of the car had to be built in North America. Now, it's 65%. So a whopping 5% increase. That accomplishes nothing.

And opening up what Canadian markets? Dairy. That's it. And most Canadian farmers are opposed to that because it will hurt their profit margins.

your figures are wrong it was 62.5 % now it;s up to 75%. That's a significant increase, and helps freeze Chinese autoparts out of assembly.
It would also require 40 percent to 45 percent of auto content to be made by workers earning at least $16 per hour - that means less job los to Mexico assembly plants, and a better standard of living for Mexican auto workers.


Dairy is significant since we were froze out of Canada with their "supply train "protectionism.
That's a whole new market for Wisconsin,etc.
But there were lots of small tweeks, like forcing open British Columbia wine and spirits market from the US.
New policies on labor and environmental standards, intellectual property protections, digital trade provisions.

Trump was a genius. NAFTA talks were bogged down and Trump told Lighthizer to separate out Mexico
and go with 2 party talks.
Once that was signed -it forced Canada's hand, and Trudeau quickly caved on terms favorable to the US.

South Korea agreed to cut 30% of its steel exports to the U.S
South Koreans agreed to let gas-powered cars from the U.S. be sold as compliant with Korean emissions regulations as well. He doubled the quota of autos SK allows in

Trump always said he wanted to renegotiate these deals -not just abandon them.

Next up is China -the Big one and the momentum is on Trumps side.
China might not formally abandon Made in China 2025 -but they aren't going to meet their goals of

Well, $16/hr is where union wages start, so all this does is maybe raise wages of about 500,000 Mexican workers, but it won't have any effect here. All it will do is nominally increase the cost of the car to consumers.

So again, big whoop. Nominal change that impacts relatively few workers in a positive way.

So it's not a re-imagine of the agreement, it's tweaking the agreement slightly, but maintaining the same bones and structure of the agreement. And Obama was already working on this prior to his departure. So Trump merely picked up what Obama had left, slapped his name on it and tried to take credit for a revamping of the entire deal.
