I don't think he insinuated that. You walk away from his statement with the question of what to do in that situation, but I didn't see him leading anyone in the direction to just give up. Maybe give up trying to tell them how to be, sure, but give up on them in general?

Everyone just needs to treat everyone more humanely and quit putting labels on everything. Everyone has there own story and we need to recognize that, and be open to the fact that you won't understand their plight. Be open to the fact that they are human even if they aren't exactly the same. Open your mind to allow them to educate you with their experiences, but don't feel the need to try and correct them on what they did wrong. Just listen. Someday, maybe you'll wish someone would be willing to listen to you.

This is absolutely true. Until you enter a lifetime relationship and actually commit to it willingly, you will never truly understand compromise.

Can they understand ours? Do they know what a lone white woman feels when she turns the corner and sees several young black males walking in the opposite direction?

There's nothing wrong with empathizing but it's a two way street---and you can only go so far with it because it's a subjective enterprise from top to bottom. It's impossible to know some things.
 
Let's use a liberal tactic.....attempt to answer a question with another question, perhaps somewhere in an attempt to consider the question a reasoned truth can be established without someone jumping up and shouting, RACIST or BIGOT to cloud an obvious truth...the only people that are holding back the black populations of the United States are the black's themselves when they brought into the WHITE GUILT TRIP being lain on them every day of the week 24/7 by those who refuse to allow Black Assimilation into a U.S. culture.

The Question? Why....is it out of all the difference races, cultures, and sub cultures that make up the United States...its the Black's that have never fully embraced a shared culture? There are no problems (or not anywhere near as great) with all the other race's of peoples. We have native American and any number of sub cultures thereof, Chinese, Vietnamese, Italian, Greek, German, English, Spanish, French, Korean, Japanese, Middle Eastern...etc., All have a great percentage of their races, THRIVING...... why such a small percentage of the Black population that has found success...while the majority never has and apparently never WANTS TO ASSIMILATE into our main stream culture?

Address this root cause and you solve the problem. Its like the proverbial 800 lb Gorilla standing in the middle of the room that everyone feigns BLINDNESS. If BIG BROTHER and his liberal cohorts would simply stop telling this group...they are special and we are sorry for the sins of our fathers...we know you can't make it without SPECIAL TREATMENT...why don't you just continue to segregate your peoples and we will take care of your every need from the cradle to the grave. We know that you are not as smart as the other races...we shall make laws calling them laws against discrimination....because you are special you will not be required to have the best skills, the best grades, to take advantage of your specialness....you will be chosen due to the color of your skin...while it will be illegal for others of a different color to do the same.....yada, yada, we shall give you a special month to celebrate your culture that we insist that you KEEP your unique personal history while make it a law that it must be celebrated at least one day for all the other cultures.

GET THE PICTURE? Tell someone enough times that they are STUPID, IGNORANT, LAZY and just not capable of taking care of their own God granted lives....generation after generation...they begin to accept the big lie....and the FREE SHIT as a requirement to simply LIVE. And they rise up in anger when anyone questions the BIG LIE.
