It is also not an honest comparison to look at how long it takes to fire 8 rounds when the point I have been making is that the cops sucked at what they did. Sure, you can empty a .45 in a few seconds, if you are not aiming but simply spraying bullets. Which proves my point.

Using words like "spraying bullets", is nothing more then hubris.
I challange you to take my paint ball test and see how well you do.

Since you know you can do better, why don't you become part of the law enforcement where you live?

Two officers responding to the shooting fired 16 rounds at Johnson, a disgruntled former apparel designer, killing him after he engaged in a gunbattle with police, authorities said.

Johnson died from nine gunshot wounds in his chest, the medical examiner's office said.

Three bullets were recovered from his body, while another four bullets exited his body, the medical examiner said.

No explanation was given for two apparently unaccounted for bullets.

Three passers-by sustained direct gunshot wounds, while the remaining six were hit by fragments...

44% of the shots fired by police, at very close range, missed? Yeah, that is some kinda shooting.

I never thought I'd see the day, but...

I would be happy to take your paintball test. From 10 feet I shoot 9 rounds at someone? Of course, they can shoot back.

There are two main reasons I do not go into law enforcement. #1 I am too old. And #2 the pay sucks.

Also, it is not hubris if the question is asked how long it takes to fire 8 rounds. That is simply a function of repeatedly pulling the trigger. Since the recoil moves your pistol, the only way firing as fast as possible works is if you are unconcerned about where your bullets go. Hence my comment about "spraying bullets".

I know how I react in a crisis situation. I also know how well I shoot at a 12"x12" target at 25 yards. A combination of those two bits of knowledge tells me I could to better than a 56% hit rate.

Then take the paint ball test and report back.]
Just remember you and your other "officer" don't get to wear protective gear.

12x12 targets don't shoot back.

Those targets are moving, surrounded by hard surfaces and innocent people, while threatening to shoot back, and sprung on you at a few seconds notice, too...right?

The cops were looking for a shooter, so it was not a surprise. Between the time they saw him and shot him, there was little movement. From the time one of the officers drew his weapon to the time he fell he took only one step and was not moving very fast.

Of course, whether you panic is the key. And the distance is much, much less than I usually shoot from.

No, they do not shoot back. That is why I also added in that I know how I respond in a crisis.

I have some friends that do the paintball thing. I'll get with them and see when they are going next. As for protective gear, I will certainly wear head and eye protection.

If you weren't, then how do you know how you'd react?

I have been in several situations in which others panicked and I did not. I have been in dangerous, even life threatening situations, in which rapid response was key. I did not panic and I thought clearly during the entire time. Afterwards I got the shakes.

Head gear and eye protection reduce the risk and therefore the idea of absolutely protecting yourself.
Just trust your "shooter" to aim midsection and below.

It also prevents viewers of the video from confirming the identity of the valiant, steely-nerved hero.

Not to mention it could reduce the flinch factor and spoil the deadly accurate aim of our boaster.
