You can let a prisoner call his mother without putting it on video for public consumption and titillation.

More importantly, all of these Russian POWs were recorded making denouncements of their government and their commanding officers.

Some of it sounded sincere to me, some of it sounded scripted, to me anyway.

You always have to wonder if coercion and threats were involved when the video wasn't rolling.

Obviously, this cannot be conflated with what the Invaders are doing to Ukranian civilians.

Cypress' point was that the videos of POWs crying to their mommies on phones could be constructed as a violation of the Geneva Conventions even if they weren't coerced.

I understand. And if there is a trial, said soldiers will testify to not being coerced.
 
War is an atrocity and a war of choice is much worse. Terrible things happen in every war. These phone calls are insignificant when compared to what Putin is doing to Ukraine. Soldiers take getting shot at personally, even if they are the attackers. They see their fellow soldiers killed and they want to retaliate. The cause of it all is Putin.

You can climb down off your pious pedestal when you recognize and condemn far, far worse war crimes than what you would like to tar the Russians with- crimes committed by Americans which never came within a country mile of being referred to any criminal court. So satellite photos show these dead bodies have been laying there in the streets for weeks, completely undermining Russia's claim that it happened after their troops withdrew.

NATO doesn't need to head to head with the Russians. Not just because of the nuke thing, as if that isn't enough, but to avoid galvanizing the Russian people into supporting Putin. As the Russian body count rises and as more information about the war leaks back into Russia, the Russians themselves will take care of Vlad. The US and NATO best stay out of it.

OTOH, I fully support arming every Ukrainian with Javelins, Stingers and as much ammo as they want.
