That's a good point. Drunk driving is a case of the idiots ruining it for everyone. In other words, since the idiots who drink half of bottle of liquor then get behind the wheel of a car, the rest of us can't have a beer with the steak dinner---without being paranoid about getting snagged in a check point.

But if you are texting, you can't be watching the road, I don't care how sober you are.

There's too drunk to drive and then there's people who are 'legally drunk'.

I'll take my chances with the latter over texting drivers any day of the week. Texters are a fricking menace on the road.

So are those "legally drunk" that claim to be able to pay attention to the road but have no business behind the wheel. Too many times, too drunk to drive and legally drunk are the same thing.

You're legally drunk at a pretty low blood alcohol level.

.08% in my state. That's like two beers at my weight. My point is the person who is at .08 is quite a bit different than someone at four five times that.

I'd much rather encounter the .08 driver on the road than the sober texter. In fact, it's the mother of no-brainers. I didn't quit riding my road bike because of the .08 crowd.

I'll put it that way.

I was stuck paying for a vehicle I could no longer drive.

The punishment for distracted drivers should be equivalent to the punishment drunk drivers face.

One of my points is that someone that is 5x that amount is both legally drunk and too drunk to drive. The other point is there are people at .08 that are too drunk to drive.

I do not support DUI checkpoints because police stops MUST HAVE REASONABLE SUSPICION that a crime has been committed, is being committed, or is about to be committed. THEREFORE, setting up checkpoints along the roadway in the hopes of catching someone who has been drinking has no basis for the stop and is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. I NEVER SAID that anyone has a right to drive drunk.

You can't cause an accident. By definition an accident is unexpected, unintentional, happening by chance, and/or without apparent or deliberate cause. In other words, an accident is something that just happens.

Provided you meet all the requirements to do so, driving isn't illegal. Drinking and having a .08 or greater is illegal.
