Will The Obama Apologize?

The leader of Apache warrior Geronimo's tribe is asking President Barack Obama for a formal apology for the government's use of the revered figure's moniker as a code name for Osama bin Laden.

Fort Sill Apache Tribal Chairman Jeff Houser sent a letter to the president Tuesday, saying equating the legendary Apache warrior to a "mass murderer and cowardly terrorist" was painful and offensive to all Native Americans.

If it was used as a code name for Osama, then The Obama should apologize.

If it was used as a Code name for Osama, don't you think that's offensive to the memory of the great Geronimo?

Not really. I think this is needless PC nonsense. It was a code name, no meaning attached. Let them use Damocles, or even my real name, should I care?

Geronimo's history won't be "besmirched" any more than it was when it was used when people jumped out of planes. It just doesn't attach meaning to the person.

Its not offensive to use it when you jump out of a plane because you are referring to the legendary bravery of Geronimo. Naming a sports team after Indian names isn't offensive either, because again you are associating the term with something good. Using it for a code name to a heinous figure is completely different.

It's not offensive when it is simply a code word in a military campaign. Only the most desperate to find something to cry about would be saying it is. If they used "George" should we be up in arms because it "besmirched" George Washington? If they had used "Bob" should half the world be pissed? What if they used, "Smith"?

Talk about weird reversals. PC rubbish is still rubbish even when it is used against "The Obama"... It is always nonsense.

Was it really the code name for Bin Laden? I saw some reports that said Bin Laden's code name was Jackpot and that Geronimo was the code for him being killed.

And I'm just going to ignore the sports team thing.

George and Bob are both common names, therefore refer to nobody. That's why we use them to name hurricanes. Imagine if they had used the code word "George Washington" though. There would be lots of people offended. I'm sure the SEALs would have objected right off the bat.

Still more nonsense. Blabbity-blather.

Seriously this is stupid nonsense. First of all Osama's code name was "Jackpot", can you tell me who that "insults"?

However, even if it was used as a code word for Osama then still all it is, is a code word. It's silly nonsense to assign some sinister meaning to it in the hopes that you can get people to apologize for something because you don't like them politically. If you are against PC nonsense then be against it, if you really are a whiney PC liberal then go be that. Don't go all hypocrite when you see a chance to use it against a political opponent.

If they used jackpot then I have no problem. What did they use Geronimo for then?

This has nothing to do with politics Damo. I'd find it offensive if Ronald Reagan used the term as a code word for Osama. And I don't think it was sinister, or even that The Obama chose the term, but he's the CIC so the ultimate responsibility is on him.

From what my friend (SEAL Captain, equivalent to a Colonel if you like Army ranks better) said, Geronimo was the code name for the mission.

They do not normally use names for targets, missions are named, targets are not they are given a code word.

In that case Native Americans should take no offense. Geronimo was a brave warrior, and these brave warriors honored him.

Ground up by Damo. Credit for finaly manning up at the end though. First time for everything I guess.
