Will Reid back up his claim?

Will Romney back up his claims? He's the one that has ready access to the information and can divulge it whenever he wishes.
 
Wait, isn't the onus on both of them? They're both making very specific claims. Had Rmoney simply said that Reid's statement was untrue, I would agree with you (setting aside for the moment whether Romney has an obligation to produce his tax returns independent from the Reid spat). But he didn't do that. Instead, he made a very specific claim about his effective tax rates over the years. So, he is just as obligated as Reid is to substantiate his claim with evidence and, contrary to Reid, he has that evidence at his fingertips.

i don't believe so. he simply said he paid no less than 13%...effectively stating reid's claim is false and he did in fact say it in response to reid. saying the percent is the same as saying it is not true. he was simply giving reid more than he deserved. the BOP does not switch simply because romney responded with a percent about. the underlying issue is whether romney paid taxes or not, not how much he paid. if reid said he paid only 5%, and romney said no, i paid 13%, you would have a point.

That's not the argument cons made about the birth certificate. It was all about "Obama should release it and put the matter to rest."

It has to do with the fact that conservatives (note that I didn't single you out) claimed for three years that Obama should produce another birth certificate because the one he did release wasn't legit. Conservatives put the onus on Obama, liberals put the onus on Romney. I think Romney should definitely produce more tax returns. Strictly speaking I don't think he did anything illegal. I think his returns will show that he has the majority of his fortune stowed away in foreign accounts and out of the reach of the IRS.

thanks, i wasn't sure as you directly responded to me. i think romney should release more returns as well. however, to focus on this as much as obama and dems are is nothing short of birtherism....call it taxerism....

I agree. Romney didn't do anything illegal. But what he did do is circumvent the American tax system. That's something the very rich do. But not the very rich who want to set an example to the American people.

What Reid said wasn't stated as fact. He merely relayed what he was told. And he isn't running for President. What Romney said is fact. He needs to back it up.
