There is a way for trump to win, but there are so many ways for trump to lose too. To make matters worse(or better for America), trump has no concept of strategy.

trump might be able to win the next election, even though he will lose the popular vote. It will be by the skin of his teeth, he will not be able to lose anything. If Cheney siphons off votes from him, there is no way he can win.
In other words, there is no way Cheney can win, but it would be easy for her to beat trump (defined as making trump lose).
trump is counting on Republicans who do not like him voting for him, because they refuse to vote for a Democrat. Cheney disrupts this. I have no problem voting for a Democrat. I am 51 years old, if that matters.
30% of the primary voters voted for her. trump will need every Republican and leaning Republican to vote for him to get 48% of the popular vote, which might get him elected. If he loses even a percent to Cheney, it is not possible.

I hope that she does run as an indy. She'll siphon more votes from the Democrats, specifically liberal women. I was talking with a liberal woman friend just the other day, who commented that Cheney "has balls". They hate Trump because he has balls and stands up to the establishment, and they love Cheney because they think she has balls, is of the establishment and hates Trump.

Not in the last 100 years. Theodore Roosevelt got above 20% with the Progressive Party.
Even if Cheney got only 1% of the vote, it would probably doom trump. I have a hard time believing she could not even get 1% of the vote.
Well, Walter, if she ran (highly unlikely) and received 1%, that 1% would be from Democrat voters, removing 1% that would have gone to the Democrat presidential candidate.

Somehow I doubt that. Cheney has no support among Democrats. You may not want to admit it, but there are many Republicans who do not want trump, but will not vote for a Democrat.
