Cheney made some sort of statement to the effect that defeating trump is more important than loyalty to party. She has a 50/50 chance of running as an independent, or third party candidate.
trump is hoping to win the election with 48% of the popular vote. It is possible. If Cheney is able to get onto the ballot, then she will take at least 10% of the vote, and then trump is hoping to win with 38% of the vote. That is not possible.
