Will Irene be Obamas Katrina?

I bet 'Browny' is feeling really embarrassed. Fancy being shown up by a woman!!!

With the same name as an ice-cream!!!

Should put them both together, pour on some butterscotch schnapps and you have a pudding to die for..... was that an unfortunate choice of words??

It's always a bit easier when the hurricane is downgraded before it hits... But yeah. FEMA did a fine job making everybody run away real fast. If it actually was a hurricane, and it was massively damaging, my bet is they would have had a better response than Bush's response to Katrina.

It is also helpful to have people listen to warnings and prepare. You know... evacuate when ordered to do so. That way you aren't left standing in the middle of hurricane without water etc...

Also helpful not to have a levee break and flood the city.

But yes, FEMA did do a good job dealing with the situation that DID present itself. I also applaud Obama for returning early from his vacation to make sure it was run smoothly

As predicted, the GOP is demanding cuts before they fund recovery efforts.

Ironically, many millionaire's property along the coast was damaged, but the Tea-rorists wouldn't dream of asking them to help pay for the repairs to their beachfront palaces.

Irene killed at least 21 people and caused substantial property damage from North Carolina to Vermont over the weekend.

Eric Cantor's Virginia district was among the areas hit by the storm as well as the epicenter of an earthquake last week.

Obama administration officials said they had no estimate of the storm's cost as they were still assessing the damage, but other elected officials and companies have indicated that it will likely amount to billions of dollars.

The administration will likely have to ask Congress for additional funding at a time when lawmakers are debating further budget cuts.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has suspended funding for some rebuilding programs from earlier disasters to ensure that its disaster-relief fund will not run out of money, according to agency administrator Craig Fugate.

FEMA currently has $972 million in the fund according to congressional Republicans.

Don't be so obtuse. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. They got the latter, but they were ready either way.

FEMA doesn't forecast the weather; they use the weather forecast to plan. Forecasters were universally sure that NYC was going to get hit, and hit hard. They didn't.

But it was still a pretty massive storm for Carolina, VA, MD & parts of NJ. Your downplaying is transparent....

As is the exaggerating.

Anyway, do you remember the 24/7 coverage of the stench in NYC early in the Bush Presidency? Seriously, they report anything at all that they think will effect NYC more than they report anything else, including a non-threatening stench floating about the city.

Hurricane news is cool, but when people like Hannity solely speak about the hurricane for more than a week... I say dang... There's stuff happening elsewhere, and it's important... Spend some time on some other topics.. Jeebus.

That's what I'm saying. I'm sure that if the fit hit the shan it would have been more smoothly handled than Katrina was. At least I hope so. But performing just above Bush's performance shouldn't be the goal of FEMA, or the Democrats as a whole for that matter. I mean, performing slightly better than Bush shouldn't be anybody's goal except maybe Carter and Nixon.

How do you feel about the Tea-rorists demanding cuts before they will approriate any more disaster relief?

Afraid to answer my question?

Nope. Dance some more, Dalai Damocles.

You'll continue to dance away from my question about the Tea-rorists by substituting another in it's place.

Suits me. Keep dancin'.

Quite a few would have returned to flooding, tree topplings, downed power lines, etc.

As for the Earthquake....since those things are essentially RARE in NYC, a 5.9 scared the shit out of everyone. Normal reaction, normal local media coverage.

Bottom line: shit happens, and it's better to be safe than sorry, so I can live with a little hyperbole.

Hope you made it through with minimal or no damage to your property. I listened to Bloomberg and agree with you that it's better to be safe. He doesn't want to face the blowback Nagin and Blanco got over Katrina.

Hey Christie, welcome back! :)

A tree fell across the street from the family home....crashed right through their fence and came down across the street to rest on the power/telelphone lines. Miraculously, the lines held...which was a good thing because they kept my brother's parked car from being crushed. As I right this, the county inspectors came by and let us know they'll get to us ASAP....and as I write this the tree is STILL leaning on those lines. Crazy thing is, we didn't lose ANY power during the storm or now. Talk about counting your blessings!
