The reasons some want China to be a so-call 'democracy' (multi-party poltical sytem) are many.

Caring about Chinese people, wanting them to have more power, freedom, money is definitely not one of them.

That is so easy to understand, if you've been abroad for a few years and you understand them.

In my opinion, the most simple one of the reasons is when you are divided, they can easily take advantage. If you are united and solid, it is a lot harder.

That's why they love Dalai Lama and 'human rights' troublemakers.

'Competitive election' means constant in-fighting. The party lost the power will spend the next 4 years trying anything and everything possible to tear down the other. Even USA can only manage two viable parties that are not much different in practice.

Of course the ruling party in China would be happy to share power if it were to be for the good of the people, right?

Of course, denying freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to protest, and other basic rights would be much harder to restrict under a two party system, wouldn't it? Therein lies the real truth.
 
I couldn't care less about how china governs itself. I certainly don't care a lick about your freedom either. You get the government you deserve. If you're a nation of spineless drones willing to serve the hive, good for you! You're as socially evolved as insects! Woo Hoo! you guys rock

Although your statement was doubtless intended to offend, it does not. In essence you are correct and I completely agree.

You seem to imply that you have certain knowledge of our leader's motives. I posit that you do not and cannot know what you claim.

Yet you base your foreign policy on this chimerical belief?

If someone does the same thing over and over, it does not take a stretch of the imagination to expect them to do it again.

This is the case with China. Your gov't has repeatedly imprisoned and executed those who protest or try to institute changes.

Until there is some sign of a serious change, expecting China to continue this practice is logical, regardless of your propaganda.

If you are willing to continue to be a drone in order for a select few to have luxuries while the overwhelming majority lives below the poverty level, you deserve your fate.

We do not owe foreigners any 'signs'.

In fact do you not owe us much? Perhaps your leaders are wiser than you in their substantive approach to us.

Pragmatism will trump rhetoric, I find.

We were not discussing national policies. We were discussing my opinion of the false elections in China. In that area, I am correct. I am using the actions of China herself, and you are countering it with what might happen somewhere in the future.

What I have referred to is fact. USA talks 'human rights' yet continues to kowtow to China for funding and other boons. Do you deny this?

the fundamental difference in the chinese and american is the value of one's own life to themselves.
Americans value their lives and demand to have the freedom to guide their own fate.
Chinese value their lives in the context of the state and the service they can provide. It seems they are happy to be directed by others who enjoy greater luxury and less strife in their daily lives, but delegate harsher lifestyles for the hoi polloi.

'It seems' you say. Yet by this wording you admit you are not knowledgable.

All discussion on the subject of 'democracy' in China that ignores the processes involved in Village Committee selections is pointless. Village Committees are not peasant farmers eking out subsistence livings. They are responsible for communities of thousands and administer substantial budgets. For example, Village Committees in Sichuan shouldered the primary responsibility for auditing the expenditure of the 1 trillion yuan (about USA$140 billion) used for post-earthquake reconstruction.

By using the wording, I'm questioning the sincerity of the participants who are the worker bees (using an insect analogy).

It seems they are happy to serve, but it's more likely they fear being killed for not obeying the tryants who govern their fate.

You need to study english a bit more.

When China was a "democracy" in the 1930s, we were chopped into pieces. every Western country plus Japan had a share.

No wonder they want us a democracy once more.
