Florida cop resigns after home surveillance footage shows he shamelessly lied about assaulting resident

A police officer in Lake Wales, Florida has resigned after newly obtained surveillance footage shows that he shamelessly lied about an incident in which he assaulted a local resident.

WFTS Tampa Bay reports that Lake Wales Officer Colt Black has stepped down after he falsely accused local resident Chris Cordero of charging at him with his fists closed, which the officer claimed justified his use of violent force on Cordero.

In reality, as a home security camera belonging to a neighbor revealed, Cordero complied with Black's commands after getting pulled over.

Additionally, it showed Black sucker punching Cordero and then further beating him up along with fellow Officer Travis Worley, who arrived on the scene shortly after Black first assaulted Cordero.

Cordero was then arrested and charged with resisting arrest, assault on a law enforcement officer and making a death threat to a law enforcement officer.

After being let out on bail, Cordero went back to the neighborhood where he was pulled over and asked residents if they had any home security footage from the time the incident took place.

When one neighbor provided him with footage, he took it to Lake Wales attorney Sara Jones, who forwarded it to the Polk County State's Attorney's Office, which immediately dropped charges against Cordero.

Black, meanwhile, filed an updated report in the incident in which he claimed that "my perception was altered due to the high stress of the incident."

Black has since resigned, while Officer Worley has been placed on administrative station duty pending investigation.

Happens more than anyone wants to admit.

And not a single JPP badge blower wants to acknowledge this or the larger problem of dirty cops.

You mean when they are not beating them with batons, bats, and American Flag poles, true, they defend them to the death one second and try beating them to death the next, go figure, too complicated for me.

kinda humorous, after the way most of you libs honored and mourned a single capitol police officer..............

I honor every cop killed in the line of duty, I contribute to their survivors fund because as usual we do not really think about who gets left behind when they pay the ultimate price for Us.
I also contribute to a fund to ensure that those that serve my area are well equipped with the best and latest tools to do their job, I believe in being Proactive.
90% of Cops are Good Cops, I personally know several as close Friends, it is the 10% that destroy the respect they should be given, Weed Them Out, then hire the Best, train them to be the Best, pay them as the Best, and hold them accountable for the power we give them.

To you, what do you consider cops? what are they?

secondly, those 'good' cops you talk of...................what do you think they're reaction is going to be if they respond to a call and come around the corner to see you trying to defend yourself against a rogue cop who is beating you?

did you honor those cops who participated in the Harding street raid in houston?

"They?"

Kappy?

The overpaid, under-talented narcissistic millionaire athlete who took a knee because pout?

The rest is just mindless cop-bashing intended to paint an entire group with one dirty/false brush - a pathetic & irrational tactic.

Not even sure what you are asking? They are us with a calling, same as military but with far more rules of engagement and a different disposition to be able to Serve And Protect.

Would not happen, first off because I do not give cops shit to begin with, secondly if I were being beaten by one cop for no reason it would end very quickly and I would wait for other officers to arrive and go downtown and call my attorney.

Do not know the incident, I live in the North Texas area. I did know a couple that were involved in taking down the shooter of five Officers here, I did not know any of the fallen but the grief the DPD had to endure was horrific.

well, that's just wrong. where did you learn that crap?

this was houston..........drug raid killed a couple and their dog, 5 cops ended up shot. turned out that the task leader lied to the judge and got a warrant and the raid murdered two innocent people and a dog..................were they heroes? did they protect and serve?

I grew up with several, they are you and me, your experience is what, riding in the back seat of a cruiser?

Training and experience, not everyone is a walking victim, but always best to defuse it to begin with which I am also good at.

No dose not sound like they were hero's, hence why I said they need to be purged from the force.

You seem to have an issue with all LEO's, I know where that usually comes from, being on the other side, tell me otherwise...

that is something you need to divorce yourself from. cops are government agents enforcing the will of the government. they are not cape wearing superheros.

and if it's one of those 'bad' cops who has no intention of letting the situation diffuse?

what I have is the frustration of supposedly intelligent citizens not seeing law enforcement for what they are. government enforcement agents who have no obligation, liability, or duty to protect any single citizen absent some special relationship with that individual, yet you still consider them your protectors.
