Why New Yorkers Flee for Florida

Do you live in Florida, and if not how does it effect you and how is it your business?

As for accents, I do not find a New York accent anymore grating or distracting than a deep south drawl, or a Texas twang.

Variety is the spice of life, chap. I would hate to live somewhere where every body spoke the same, same intonation, same inflection, same cadence. That's just my preference.
From what I can tell, the boys generally go wild for my female cousins' Russian accents. So I do not think I am the only one that appreciates variety.
I do live in Florida,
and yes it very much is my business -especially since we came razor close to electing a socialist for governor.

I'm all for accents too - I make my living with my voice -i totally get it;
but NY/NJ especially grate on the ears

Jesus Christ you are a boring ass basic bitch Republican
OMG a Republican!! - next it's Hitler!

you'e an idiot.
The Fl economy is absolutely booming and with tax reform - we have no state income tax / just property.
We fund schools and essential services -we don't fund Medicade expansion, and lavish welfare schemes
As a result we are now a larger population then NY

A recent article in a Beltway publication warned about a potential recession and considered how it might affect President Trump’s chances at re-election. The story began—no joke: “The luxury real estate market in Manhattan is sagging.” It goes on to argue that softening in the real-estate market in high-tax Northeastern states is caused by the 2017 tax-reform law. Thus the claim is that because taxpayers can deduct only $10,000 in state and local taxes from their federal returns, America is heading for a recession.

Nonsense. The tax-reform law stops high-tax states from burdening the rest of us with their irresponsible decisions. America is a marketplace where states are competing with each other, and New York is losing. Their loss is Florida’s gain—and Texas’ and South Carolina’s and Ohio’s and Indiana’s.

I would like to tell New Yorkers on behalf of the rest of America that our hearts go out to you for your sagging luxury real-estate market. But you did this to yourself, and you can fix it yourself. If you cut taxes and make state and local government efficient, maybe you can compete with Florida again.

I’m an outsider to politics and spent most of my career in business. I ran both small and large companies—a doughnut shop and the country’s largest health-care provider. I employed hundreds of thousands of Americans and was responsible for making payroll for most of my career. But I grew up in public housing, in a family that struggled for work. I know how important it is to get people back to work.

When I ran for governor in 2010, I evaluated Florida as a turnaround opportunity. It had great assets—and, more important, great people—but was suffering from mismanagement and a lack of leadership. The naysayers said a businessman can’t make government work. They were wrong. My administration cut more than $10 billion in taxes and more than 5,000 burdensome regulations. Florida businesses created nearly 1.7 million new jobs. We paid off more than one-third of our state debt over my eight years as governor while we made record investments in education, transportation and the environment.

I made more than 20 trips to high-tax states like California, Connecticut, Illinois, New York and Pennsylvania to lure businesses to Florida. The tax-happy leaders of those states were furious, which made the visits all the more enjoyable for me. They called me every name in the book. But they were the ones who raised taxes, and bad decisions have consequences.

The elites in New York and Washington should commission a study of Florida to see what happens when conservative ideas are put into practice. The luxury real-estate market in Manhattan may be sagging, but Florida’s economy is thriving, expanding at a record pace.

There’s a reason Florida surpassed New York as the third-largest state. There’s a reason Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s mom left New York for Florida. And there’s a reason companies are fleeing high-tax states, bringing jobs with them to Florida, Tennessee and Texas.

he probably is at least the usual raider of health care funds, but I can't argue with his tenure as governor

they bring their twisted big g'ubbment desires with them -even though they flee the taxes!

Over a third of those "leaving" are snowbirds, bubble demographics, they return in the Spring, and the majority of the rest are those that can't make it here, as the lyrics go, "if you can make it here you can make it anywhere," those exited couldn't

Florida is flat out boring, flat, strip malls, chain stores, boulevards, gnats, humidity, and traffic lights you could knock off lunch waiting for them to change

you want action go to Miami. Baltimore is so fucked up people won't even drive downtown to see Oriole games, and their attendance sucks.
That said I still like Boston for ultra -livability; but I can't afford to live there and it's too damn cold

The Republican tax plan spiked both the national deficit and therefore the national debt as a result.
It was a catastrophe that has created an existential threat to the republic itself.
It was incredibly stupid, and frankly, only incredibly stupid people supported it.
Even the oligarchs who think only in the short term created what can only be a long game destruction of their own empires.

Crackers applaud the SALT takeway partly because of the contempt that civilized people in civilized states have for them.
I can almost understand.
Nobody likes to be sneered at.
I sneer at them all of the time because it's a personal character flaw on my part and I genuinely hate them.
I'm not running for office, however.

But that tax plan, if not reversed, will fuck them up as much as it does everybody else over time.
I suppose that stupid people are blessed to not understand how stupid they actually are.
