The words are synonymous.

Okay, then in that light I can understand the use of the word as a put down, but how does Obama represent any of those?

I see a few that fit Bush.

Again how would that describe Obama and not Bush?

My point before wasn't about accuracy, it was about why they use it. And I am reasonably sure I used Bush as an example.

I don't think McCain is an Elitist, yet it was attempted to paint him with it as well.

McCain is not elitist (in the way you have described it as an insult), who tried to paint him as one?

No, "elite" doesn't just mean successful. Many of the successful are still down-to-earth.

The idea of "elite" is people who think they are a step above others because of their wealth and/or success. The idea is to promote that they are doing things "for" people that they believe are "inferior" as a kind gesture but do not really understand the core problem.

That is why they say "elite" and then people assume it is "bad".

You will hear it as in, "Bush is an elitist who was born on third base and thought he hit a triple!" (Note the use of Bush as an example of how the word is used)

Or, "Kerry is elitist and hypocritical, living in a Mansion with servants... blah, blah."

The extant of the idea is to (usually) paint an opponent as "out of touch with the regular Joe" in some way or another. Like pointing out that having 7 houses is just "too much". (note the use of how they tried it with McCain.

I don't want to rewrite it, so I'll just quote it.

Elitist does not mean elite. To call someone an elitist does not mean that they are necessarily a member of the elite. It means they are one that believes a small group, chosen by their status, should make decisions for others.

Opposing such views has nothing to do with envy. I oppose it because it won't work. The elite are not capable of making decisions for others because they don't possess enough knowledge to make decisions in the lives of others.

I guess it depends how you define "elite". If it refers to intelligence then that's easy to understand. It recalls a segment from the ongoing feud between Lady Astor and Sir Winston Churchill:

Lady Astor: Sir Winston, you are drunk, you are very drunk, you are exceedingly drunk.

Sir Winston: Lady Astor, you are ugly, you are very ugly, you are exceedingly ugly. Tomorrow, I shall be sober."

In an egalitarian society, theoretically anyone can become rich and successful. In contrast, not everyone can be intelligent. Tomorrow, topper may lose all his cash but some of us will still be intelligent.

I love this one, I had not heard it in a while thanks.

The Elite tag is a made up Rovian tactic to insult rich people who are not down with the Corprate whoring the rest of the Corporate whores want to take part in.

Its a fabrication of political set of people the dumb redneck can hate so the corporation can trick them into voting against their self interests.

A corporate head like say the Ben and Jerry guys who believe they can have a succesfull business, be rich and still pay their fair share of taxes.

These guys NEED to be turned into clowns for the idiot tribe of Americans who make very little money but will vote for the corporate bidding to be done if you give them enough imaginary monsters to hate.

It worked great for about thirty years on a big chunk of Americans , those days are gone.

No I did not read EVERY post in this thread.

I also said first thing in my post that it was nothing but a Rovian tag USED by the cons.

Hell people on the right cant even accept that Democracy includes republics let alone be expected to define other words correctly.

democracy includes republics? sorry, you lost me there (mostly likely because i'm an idiot but nonetheless...).

And yes political terms are not always used as the dictionary defines them. 'Neo-con' is an example.

In this country the elite go to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and other Ivy League schools. They went to Sidwell Friends and schools like that as kids, Their parents are members of groups like Bohemian Grove. The Bush family, and the Kennedy's are both part of the american elite. Henry Kissenger and Zbignew Brezinski are part of the american elite.

Elite is an insult because what it takes to be truly elite is a willingness to sellout your countrymen, and everyone else along the way. Money flows the way the military industrial complex wants it too, and they choose the behaviors to incentivize or not. They choose to incentivize a lot of bad behavior, and they present fascism as free trade.

To succeed in their system you have to do what they say, and they say, "be a fascist".

The future will be revolution proofed by the MIC seizing control of all resources. They do this by tethering all resources to a fiat currency they control, and then incentivizing dependance on the matrix.

Super Rich people are mostly bad.

I have been repetedly told by people on the right here and at every site I have ever been on that we are NOT a Democracy.

The facts are that a Republic is a type of Democracy and calling the US a democracry is perfectly correct.

The wet their underooos every time the subject comes up and they ignore all the dictionarys and encycopedia articles and definitions that they are given.

For the political use of the republican party an elite is anyone who has brains , noteriety and or wealth and doesnt repete the republican talking points that corporations are the gods of our society.
