Why is VA trying to take down a General Lee statue to begin with?

I don't see this as a PC thing at all. Lee fought for slavery, and that's what he & his statue represent to a lot of people. If you had ancestors who were slaves (and not that many generations back), it's pretty easy to see why you wouldn't want a statue celebrating someone like that around.
Of course you don't, you are one of the useful idiots!

I don't.

This is an extreme example, but for awhile, Hitler was GREAT for the German economy.

Lee may have done some other noteworthy things, but he was the GENERAL WHO LED THE FIGHT TO PRESERVE SLAVERY. Rightfully, that is what his statue represents to a lot of people.

Sorry 'bout that.

He led the fight for the right of the Confederacy to be independent of the USA. Lincoln didn't give a damn about the slaves, he even allowed the north to carry on owning them. The war was all about taxes, stop spouting PC bollocks and crack open a book. It was only later on when the war was going badly that he wanted Southern blacks to join the Northern army.

Statues are generally erected for the purpose of honoring. Certainly, that is how many perceive Lee's statue.

Again, it is a total strawman to imply that we're erasing Lee's history by removing his statue. He will forever be in the history books & taught to anyone who has to pass through grade school.

It's a really lame point. That and "confederate soldiers are US veterans!" It's just completely tone deaf.
Oh don't worry the Left will get round to burning books before too long, you can count on it.

the books are being rewritten or already have been

now the libs want to remove the physical evidence of the past too

they are coming for the Founding Fathers already

soon we will only have non Whites remembered as ever having done anything good

Wow.

Way down the rabbit hole. Way down.
TTQ is a lunatic and you're getting there!!

If you ever go to the D-Day beaches, you'll see Nazi gun emplacements all along especially overlooking Omaha Beach. Should those be dismantled because they are symbols of oppression? I have also been to Oświęcim aka Auschswitz, surely that is potent symbol of oppression far far worse than anything in the antebellum South.

american appropriation of native american names

Is it offensive for sports teams to use the names of Native Americans?

Is it offensive for Towns and Cities to use the names of Native Americans?

Is it offensive for Mexico to use the names of Native Americans to name its country?

They lost! Erase them from history.

Is it offensive for Africa's Liberia to use the names of Western civilisation to name its cities?

I think JPP needs to give seminars on analogies. I've seen some of the worst ever over the past few days.

You know why those gun emplacements don't bother anyone? Because they don't celebrate any leaders of the Nazi cause, and they were part of the DEFEAT of the Nazis.

If you can't understand why some people might have a revulsion to a statue that celebrates one of those who led the fight to preserve SLAVERY, I really can't help you. As I've said, it doesn't offend me - but I can easily understand how it offends some.
