why is the US Chamber of Commerce abandoning the entire GOP?

Over the past month, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has taken a series of steps that have enraged its traditional Republican allies. It applauded much of President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion plan to Covid relief bill; cheered Biden’s decision to rejoin the Paris climate agreement; backed the former leader of the liberal Center of American Progress, Neera Tanden, for Office of Management and Budget director; and expressed openness to raising the minimum wage, though not to $15 an hour.

...GOP fat cats are livid, this is one their biggest sources of cash

They don't like violence and destruction of property.

They don't like violence and destruction of property.

Or insurrection, sedition, and those who coddle them. It's very bad for business. Besides, even the CofC knows that the American economy nearly always does much better under a (D) POTUS than under the (R) losers.

The last three Republican presidents have collectively overseen anemic economic growth, and negligible job growth.

Maybe the Chamber is basing their switch to Democrats based on evidence and performance

Had to do a double take on this one. Is this good news if you’re on the left? The Chamber supports free trade/trade deals, fights against minimum wage increases etc. They are pretty much the epitome of ‘profits over people’. If you’re more a corporate Dem, like the poster Flaming Capitalist, I would see this as good news. But if you’re in the Bernie/Warren camp is this cause for celebration?

Because there has been a realignment of the parties....The R's are now the party of the little people, and the D's are now the party of the failed elites.

Too much extremism in either direction is bad for the economy. Republicans have become an extremist party, and only an extremist party. Democrats are all the spectrum from moderate to the left.

Hello Darth Omar,

I don't believe the US Chamber of Commerce has any intention of going anywhere.

They simply recognize the fact that right wing extremist violence is not good for business.

They represent everything that was wrong with the GOP.

Good riddance. Democrats can have them.
