Why is Romney allowing the President to define him.

In the battleground states of Florida, Ohio and Virginia the Preisdnet has unleashed, over the past three weeks, a barage of negative ads that appear to be working.

I am not suprised by this, what I am suprised is that Romney has not responded with anything, not even posative ads.

This is either a tactical decision with the intent being to hit the ground running after the olympics into the convention... or it is simply incompentance in the campaign. If it was a tacticaly decision, its a BIG gamble, because Romney needs to define himself before anyone else does, he is very much unknown. I know the thought is that the campaign will not be about Romney but about the president, and that is somewhat true... However In my opinion, the first choice undecidededs will have to make is if they like the President or not. If they decide they dont like the President next they will have to decide if Romney is better or worse. Failure to define yourself might very likely hurt Romney in this area.

Ummm....because he's stupid? Because the president is doing a fine job of it? I really don't know but if he lets him keep it up he'll lose for sure.

I am shocked, I dont tag Romney as stupid. At least I dont tag his campaign managers as stupid.

The only guess I can make is that they have a plan they belive will work better, or your correct, they are simply DUMB.

Don't you thnk the president's adds are accurate? I do. I think Romney is an out of touch rich dude.

McCain did the same thing in 2008. There were times where I seriously questioned whether McCain even wanted to be President. He never turned down an opportunity to praise Barack Obama.

Of course, this year Romney has the perfect opportunity, and so far he appears to be blowing it. If Romney loses, the only person to blame will be Romney.

I agree. He couldn't have an opponent so vulnerable as the president is now. I can still hear Carville's message in 1992. Romney is trying to use this message but it doesn't resonate as well for him as it did for Clinton because people don't think Romney can relate.

I have many issues with Romney. The biggest one is how he's running his campaign. Yes the economy is not in good shape and yes he should go after Obama for that but that is all he is doing. He needs to articulate his vision going forward as well. It must be a combination. He can't just say Obama is failing and expect that to lead him into the White House.

Romney and Obama both serve the same people and their interests. You can bet that it's part of the act like in a wrestling match when the guy keeps running back and forth into the ropes and then runs right into the clothesline move. Even 5 year olds scratch their heads wondering why the guy ran into the other guy. ask yourself why you still think it's real?

Gee, I thought I was the only one getting that cynical.

All he has is the economy.

You can't run a campaign based on jobs and the economy when you've become a very, very, very rich man with money hidden all over the world at the expense of firing people.

I agree, but Romney's campaign managers are not dumb. Why are they doing this? It must be intentional.

I Respect Romney for not going after the President on the social issues and the "unamerican" issue, but its looking that that is becoming Romney's only way. He needs to buy the GWB/Lee Atwater/Carl Rove how to get a Republican elected handbook.

I think the problem is that we've been experiencing the campaign for over a year now......a decade ago no one would have expected ads to start until after the August conventions......

you also can't run a campaign based on jobs and the economy when you've been in charge of it for four years and it's still fucked up......

I will guarantee you that the majority of voters who are against Obama on social issues will vote for Romney anyway. The nutters that think his birth certificate is invalid or whatever...who knows what they will do, probably vote for Romney anyway. The tax issue appeals only to working folks and they a split about 50/50, I'd say. No...about the only thing he has is the economy and like I said, a lot of folks think he is too out of touch for that to resonate with them. I think he's toast.

I guess you are correct, but it seems to me he needs to get the "nutters" railed up and out to vote incase a third of them cant be bothered to vote for Romney who does not care about the "real" issues like the American Flag, Perserving the Hetorsexual way of life, and "being born in Merica"

I think Romney is going to go very negative. We all saw what he did to his fellow Republicans in the primaries. I think he plans on going so negative that they want to wait till the last minute to blitz an assault that is going to hit all of the American nerve points (yes, race) and he doesn't want time for a media backlash to kick in.

But you make a good point that he is allowing himself to be defined and thus it may be too late by the time he attacks Jarod.

When you say Romeny is going to go after the nerve point of race are you referring specifically to white people who voted for Obama in 2008 but maybe would not vote for him again in 2012 because he is black?

Obviously racism exists but Obama won the election in 2008 so it didn't keep from the office then.

No, I am not referring specifically to them, I am referring to how Mitt is going to run his campaign. Yes he is going to run a racially charged campaign. But you might not notice it. Let's see, are you the type who believed that Newt's "the foodstamp president' was not racially charged? Do you believe that Acorn being targeted had nothing to do with race? If so you are just the sucker they're looking for! Don't worry you'll have plenty of company here.

It'll be interesting to say the least.
