Why is LSD illegal?

Reading about LSD will never give you meaningful insight into LSD. If anyone wants to know about LSD, they need to try LSD.
Lol. Did you live through the 60s/70s?

You can witness horrific events while on the influence and that will lead to a very bad trip.
You don't have to be tripping to suffer from witnessing horrific events. Typically, people don't witness horrific events while tripping. Unless Jerry's voice was shitty again.

If you don't understand tripping, best to do it with a veteran.

Some impure acid can will really mess with your stomach - creating a bad trip.
Yea. That's not acid. Probably strychnine.

Had you bothered to read this thread though, you would see everything you offered abut Kesey, the Dead, and LSD I already discussed - in much more detail
How many times have you seen The Dead?

No one drives after taking LSD.
We did several times. Late at night. Once, a rock wall got up and ran into the road right in front of us. Good thing we knew it wasn't real.

Another time we left a midnight Jimi Hendrix movie. An oppossum crossed the road in front of us. Tail was 6 feet long, and rainbow colored.

Driving while tripping is neither a good idea, nor for the meek.

The psychedelic drug LSD was first prohibited long before U.S. President Richard Nixon declared an “all-out offensive” on drug abuse in June 1971.

Then in 1968, U.S. Congress passed a bill amending the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to ban the personal possession of LSD at the federal level.

Two years later, on October 27, 1970, the Controlled Substances Act was signed into law.

Yes. LSD was legal for a lot of the sixties

Wouldn’t recommend it, as “zymurgy” pointed out, it ain’t what it used to be, now you are not sure what it is, the days of Owsley Stanley and Sunshine Superman are long gone, finished when it became a profit drug
Ashamed to say that I only recently found out that this song is about Bear.

While the music played, you worked by candlelight
Those San Francisco nights
You were the best in town
Just by chance you crossed the diamond with the pearl

You turned it on the world
That's when you turned the world around
(Did you feel like Jesus?)
Did you realize
That you were a champion in their eyes?

On the hill the stuff was laced with kerosene
But yours was kitchen-clean
Everyone stopped to stare at your technicolor motor home

unless you are fucking a top notch grower - you are not getting the care and attention given to medical grade plants sold at premium prices.

Sorry. You are full of shit.

And this is coming from a full on dead head /phish head wook that still travels the country with hippies and growers
Then your are lying. If you have sun, and good stock. you don't have to do much to 'care' for the plants.

When my back was seriously out and I had to wait a good long time for my epidural, which always works like magic, thankfully,

I was eating oxycodone tablets as if they were M&Ms. I was gulping them down with Bloody Marys [Maries?], as a matter of fact.

Not once did I experience anything remotely related to what I would think of as a 'high."

All that they did was drop another subtle layer of gauze on the veil that seemed to be around my head, every perception, including that of pain, thankfully, diminishing.

There was no euphoric experience at all, and if that wasn't bad enough, they also tended to constipate me on top of it all.

And there was absolutely no withdrawal or other sign of onset addiction when I didn't need them after the steroid shot.

I enjoyed the occasional joint as a younger man. That's about it.
Now I love my strong coffee heavily spiked with Sambuca.

No judgement at all on the recreational drug use of others as long as it doesn't cause irresponsible or anti-social behavior.
It doesn't seem to be my thing, however.
I have enough other vices.

I've never tried it either and don't plan to. I really don't know the answer exactly. I do know that when I was a kid/teenager, they constantly warned us against it. There were stories about people becoming psychotic and incurable. People supposedly thinking they were birds and trying to fly out of high stories. Art Linkletter's daughter died that way. It's not addictive like heroin, cocaine, fentanyl, etc.
Yea well, they also filmed 'Reefer Madness' ;)

You sound experienced. If you feel comfortable discussing it, I'd like to hear what your experiences were and how you felt about them.

I recall being skeptical - thinking this was going to be like marijuana - and would be a rather weak thing compared to the hype surrounding it. I was mistaken.

It is hard to put into words the overall feeling while on it. At small doses it can be a very enjoyable party drug. At higher ones you can get quite introspective about your faults and failures, and this is where I have found it most useful over the years, but that is only possible when you use it responsibly - which means you are in a good place physically and mentally at that time and setting.

Explaining a trip is hard - sort of like when you wake up from a dream but can't quite remember the dream.

After the initial confusion, disorientation wears off, the visual changes around you become pronounced. I do recall the first time as the strong visual element kicked in feeling like I was let in on this huge secret inside joke where so much in art and entertainment was clearly influenced by these experiences and "getting it". The patterns of objects moving/swaying, the vibrant colors and sounds....euphoria

It is these euphoric waves of "knowing" as you reach a peak period is why people repeat using it though. This phony sort of understanding things - which itself is so pleasurable is why it can also become destructive - The lightbulb going on sensation as your mind wanders. You will want that again and again.

But if you enjoy it cleanly - not drinking and using other substances, the next day or two after you continue to have this warm upbeat "afterglow" feeling, so I sort of see how it is proving to be successful treating alcoholism and other addiction withdrawals. The reason I believe it can be useful in counseling is it works the opposite of so many other drugs - I have seen people explain it as ego death - but in a therapeutic setting where people that are still lying to themselves have to first face all those lies in order to really enjoy the experience.

The care after harvest is also time consuming. trimming. gas exchange, but not letting it dry out, etc, etc.

A quality product takes lots of care. That is no lie!

Thank you so much for relating your experiences. There's a lot of comments I have but I'm going to grok this in its fullest first. This is exactly what I recall -- as a kid in the 60s -- hearing about LSD trips. There are other plant-based psychoactive drugs that impart the same kind of transcendental experiences. I'm fearful of them but also intensely interested.

Trimming is a pain in the ass! Good weed should be dry if you have a lot of trichomes. But I agree about post harvest care.
