Actually, the history behind this is the party was originally named Democratic-Republican (which makes sense as a noun), and split during Andrew Jackson's presidential campaign with his faction becoming the Democratic party. It's understandable that the use of an adjective in the name got used as Andrew Jackson was illiterate, much like many Democrats today.


The problem today is that the party simply is too stupid, onerous, or something to fix this case of public illiteracy once and for all.
