Why is Donald Trump still free?

I wonder how safe our nation is if someone plotting to overthrow the government is allowed to stay out of prison.

We know he broke federal laws more times than we can count.

A Trump adviser’s angry eruption over Jan. 6 bodes badly for democracy

One of Trump’s leading Jan. 6 co-conspirators — former adviser Peter Navarro — just doubled down on this notion. He’s not alone: The persistence of this among some top Trumpists — and the refusal of others to unequivocally side with Pence — bodes badly, as Trump’s movement adopts the idea that the only thing wrong with his coup scheme was that it failed.

Navarro’s restatement of the Pence-as-betrayer myth comes in response to a subpoena he received from the House select committee examining Jan. 6. The committee is examining Navarro’s role as a key orchestrator of the effort to get Biden’s electors invalidated in Congress.

And furthermore,....He will stay that way. Unlike some of the D politicians after this upcoming November.

Anybody with the army of attorneys and accountants defending him, plus an entire political party and major news network defending him regardless, they would also be free

Yep, it's good to have at least some decent amount of money in this country, even if it's mostly loans from Deutsche bank or some poor grandparents last bit of retirement money they've been swindled out of.

I would also have to assume at some level there's people higher up that don't want to be the first ones to bring criminal charges against a former president. Even if the only qualm is that it might hurt America's reputation.

Didn't France bring charges against one of their former presidents fairly recently?

Investigators Find Gaps in White House Logs of Trump’s Jan. 6 Calls

Few details of what Mr. Trump did inside the White House as rioters stormed the Capitol are known. He was watching television as the riot played out on cable news, and several aides including his daughter, Ivanka Trump, implored him to say something to try to tell the rioters to stop.

Nevertheless, his first public communication as the melee unfolded was a Twitter post attacking then-Vice President Mike Pence. Mr. Trump also is known to have tried to reach out to one senator as the certification of the Electoral College vote was delayed. And he fielded a call from Representative Kevin McCarthy, the top House Republican, who told Mr. Trump that people were breaking into his office on Capitol Hill.

I grew up watching Watergate Hearings. I've never seen our nation in this depth of corruption.

True, and it is going to be that way for some time now, tinkering on the edge of disaster, until some charismatic individual comes around who can unite the moderate voices extremism will prevail

As Bertolt Brecht said in a play. "Woe to a nation that has no heroes!" The reply, "Woe to a nation that needs heroes."

It now appears that all the phone records of the calls to and from him on January 6 have been disappeared. Why is that?

As I have said before, unfortunately, regardless of everyone’s wishes, Trump is never going to jail, nor legally going to be held accountable for any of this, at his age, plus his army of attorneys and accountants, it will all be postponed, delayed, and appealed beyond his lifetime.

The only consequences he could suffer is the effect of it all on his political ends, and with his businesses, which with his ego, would be more devastating. Which means the final report the January 6th Committee presents has to be bulletproof, leave no room for doing, it is the American people who will be the jury
