Why hasn't Obama visited Colorado?

Big Money

The residents of the state have suffered a huge natural disaster, yet Obama hasn't bothered to visit the stricken area.

Why?

Let him stay away. It irks me that we'd have to pay millions for him to show up for photo ops so he can pretend that there is no money available for WH tours.

Vice President Biden and his lovely wife Jill were in Colorado on Monday. The President is scheduled to be there on November 1, 2013 but may go there much sooner and as his time permits. The good people of Colorado have indeed suffered flooding, death, and destruction without precedence in recorded history. Every disaster agency of the Federal Government is now represented in Colorado with strict orders from the President to do all they can to abrogate the disasters and provide all relief necessary to sustain the good but presently desperate people there.

Is there more that you had in mind?

Wonder how many Obama haters are going to turn down the federal disaster aid </rhetorical>.

Why would hating Obama have anything to do with federal aid ?.....

Oh...I get it...this is your lame attempt to use this strawman for trolling ....

well, if not you, it would be Jarhead Jarod.,,,,,,,The Dude liked it though....but then he epitimizes stupidity.

Bush was there, he flew right over New Orleans on his way home from his record long vacation. I saw a photo where he even looked out the window of Air Force One.

People in CO aren't going to get much aid to rebuild homes. FEMA helps those who had flood insurance to begin with, most of these people did not. It wasn't required by their mortgage companies, they weren't in a flood plain, in fact they were high in the hills.

Anyway, agreeable to the rules set down for FEMA, most Coloradans will not receive much in direct aid. There are a great many homes that will simply rot where they are because the owners don't even have the money to remove the damaged structure and their home owner's insurance will not cover flood damage.

Repeat that often, I hope everybody believes you.

Hey, I am actually in the preliminary stages of planning a trip to Denver. My wife and I want to get away somewhere cooler than here, and the tickets to Denver are cheap to Denver. $188 RT! Do you have any recommendations for a reasonably priced hotel or town west of Denver, maybe in the mountains but not so far away we would spend a half a day getting there?

That's too bad, I hope something changes and the best comes to those people.

You, sir, are a total liar and completely un-informed about what FEMA does and is all about. I lost practically everything I owned in the Mississippi River flood of 2011. Because I had insurance FEMA had little assistance for me. On the other hand, other residents/property owners that lived in that flood-path and had no insurance whatsoever were compensated very handsomely by FEMA for the loss of their properties. Some, who only had a few hundred dollars invested in their dwellings that were sitting on rented land, received between $30,000 and $40,000 in disaster aid. As an insured I received only the difference between what my property was insured for and what FEMA decided I could replace it for, which was minimal.

The point here is that FEMA does not take care of the insured. It takes care of the un-insured. On another note, FEMA compensated all for removal of their condemned dwellings but only if their insurance would not pay for it. Those are the FACTS. All else is just hateful and ignorant bullshit.

You are misinformed. FEMA helps people in flood plains, not people who are not in flood plains and uninsured, and they give only small amounts and mostly to people who have the insurance offered at a subsidized rate through the government. You may feel like people who lived on the flood plain were somehow magically uncovered, but they actually were... otherwise the minimal help from FEMA would simply not be enough to even clear the wreckage. Plus living on a flood plain their Mortgage companies would simply require that coverage.

We have the benefit of one of the past heads of FEMA on the radio every day, I'm pretty sure he knows more about it than you... The reality is, most people in CO can't even get the government subsidized flood insurance, because they simply aren't in a flood plain, and at most will get around 30K, not enough to rebuild with. There are loans available... I'm glad I will not have to obtain one.

It is you, sir, that is terribly mis-informed. Anybody that wants flood insurance can get it whether in a flood plain or not. Just google it. Hundreds of companies and even FEMA itself offer relatively low-cost flood insurance for dwellings in or out of any flood plain. My property was quite definitely in a flood plain and we had floods about every 3 years. Very normal for that particular area of the Mississippi River and our dwellings were built to sustain very easily those regular and predictable floods. Most people that lived there did not carry flood insurance by their own choice or because they couldn't afford it. I did carry flood insurance and it cost me dearly when it came time for FEMA disaster aid for me.

FEMA assists people and communities in ALL kinds of disasters, flood plain or not, hurricane alley or not, tornado alley or not, any disaster that the people need assistance in recovery is the job of FEMA. And the only differences that FEMA makes between the level of assistance is whether and how much insurance will cover. FEMA will in no circumstances pay for damages covered under an insurance policy and if you file for assistance with FEMA for damages covered by insurance then FEMA will ask for the money back and place you under a penalty of law. Right now there are at least two of my former neighbors that filed false claims with FEMA and are serving time in Federal prison for their transgressions against a noble and benevolent society. Others also had filed false claims but between FEMA and their attorneys they have avoided prosecution.

I don't give one shit what you say about some talking radio head that claims to have been some kind of FEMA official at one time or another. But I do know for certain how FEMA operates in disaster relief and their policies in any reimbursement for expenses also covered by insurance and reimbursement expenses purely paid for from the pockets of the disaster victims. Even if you ate at a Red-Cross tent you were required to sign for that meal and if you also claimed a meal reimbursement from FEMA they almost certainly would catch it and you would have to reimburse FEMA or possibly go to jail.

What I say here are FACTS. I have the losses and experience that prove and demonstrate them as such. If you want to have a genuine discussion about the real world I'll be very glad to have it with you. But, when you start right out with nothing but lies and total ignorance I immediately discount all else you might say as equally flawed.
