I'll dismiss the difference between "Liberals" and "Democrats" and bite knowing you don't know the difference and don't care to.

1934

"the nation’s economic collapse was the result of the vast disparity between the super-rich and everyone else. A recovery was impossible while 95% of the nation’s wealth was held by only 15% of the population. In Long’s view, this concentration of money among a handful of wealthy bankers and industrialists restricted its availability for average citizens, who were already struggling with debt and the effects of a shrinking economy. Because no one could afford to buy goods and services, businesses were forced to cut their workforces, thus deepening the economic crisis through a devastating ripple effect." ~Huey Long on the Great Depression. Very similar to today.

If you didn't learn from history, you aren't going to learn and will only be focused on monetary greed.

Now, again, everyone Left here is American. You tell us what the laziest worker in McDonalds should make and what the hardest worker should make.

they are often NOT elites. they are the unwashed masses. they are the proles.

The reason they believe those things is because they don't believe in property rights or individual rights. They are the kid in elementary school that forgot their snack and told the teacher in order to make all the other kids give them a share of what they brought themselves.

if they are having strife, then you must have strife, if they suffer, all must suffer. Their altruism is a cover for their laziness and selfishness.

And the elites don't believe in community

Well....too bad for you that due to getting gradually fucked for the past thirty years or so, the "proles" are exercising their rights as Americans to serve their own best interests.

Exactly. They are nothing but SELF SERVING. There was once an experiment conducted on rats where they were given a choice between having the pleasure center of their brain stimulated or being fed. 100% of the time the rats starved to death. THAT is the behavior of a prole. They don't even have the capacity to imagine the long term, let alone actually work towards it.

They are the 'progressive' elites. They believe that businesses exist to serve the employees and customers. Funny thing though, time and again their ideas are run through think tanks and government accounting and 'if implemented' would cost 'some,' 'lots' of loss of jobs. So 'some' would get more, others nothing.

Same grand plan of unions. "no compromise!" Many lose their jobs.

The 'customer is always right' isn't because business is enamored with all customers-just speak to any that have actually dealt with them-rather, an acknowledgment that it is the customer that fuels the business, the profits-that will pay the employees, owner(s) including stockholders.

Most businesses pay somewhat more than minimum wage to entry employees not out of altruism (shock), but to try to attract workers that will provide decent service to customers, thus making more $$$ through sales.

In general, the businesses being addressed regarding minimum wage discussion are retail and food industry, both with very slim profit margins.

As someone above already posted, a single person working for minimum wage is already above the poverty line. Indeed, if they are working a 40 hour week, not likely today, they wouldn't qualify for SNAP benefits.

IL 'minimum' wage is I believe today, $8.25. If one continues to work for most employers in the same position, they will be over $10 per hour in about 2.75 years. Many cap at $11.00, figuring one should move on or up by that time. Only those without skills or need stay longer.

I have to laugh....the "proles" are self serving because they want to feed their families, but the elites who have the world by the ass off the sweat of other people's brows are not.

By the way...two rats in a cage....one inside of a plexiglass enclosure and one outside? The outside rat will help the one stuck to get out.....and even share food once it helps the trapped rat escape....just learned that in the new issue of Discover.

No....we believe that business serves society, and because of that service, they become wealthy. But when business breaks from their role and decides to fuck over their workers....and by default....society....we believe that society needs to reign them in.

That actually sounds much more like the social contract between government and the people.

Only for your small mind.

My small mind? Let's see, the vast majority of the people of this country work as employees. That means a smaller group are employers. Employers who rely on sales of their goods and/or services for their success. They also rely on their employees to make or sell those goods and provide those services.

Are ya with me so far, sweetheart?

What happens when a large portion of the workforce are in low wage positions? What happens to the economy? What happens to sales and services?

Well, here in the U.S. we supplement those low wages with taxpayer funds. So, next time you're eating your Mcdouble for a buck....tack on the price of food stamps, Medicaid and housing allowances and tell me again how they aren't fucking over society.

You don't do condescension well, you might want to work on that.

We in the US believe that you get what you pay for.

Now as somebody who worked in a minimum wage job recently enough to know what little they ask, I'll tell you that 7.25 an hour is about the level of service you get from somebody you pay that much. They do the minimum to get by and not get shouted at and call it quits. They were able to train me to do that job in 8 hours, everything I needed to know. Now explain to me why they should be paid 15 dollars an hour for something a 17 year old kid can do with no prior training or skill.

Shoot, I don't think the enlisted troops in the military are paid that well and they have several weeks of training and get shot at.

Doesn't matter. The truth is that 17 year old kids aren't the only demographic of low wage jobs anymore. There are a lot of people who are trying to actually live on those wages through no fault of their own.

You want a service driven economy? Then providing services has to be able to pay the bills.

But....I guess you are ok with your tax dollars going towards low wage employers' profits. Just make sure you know who you're talking about when you use the word "takers".

Fuck I would have been happy if I was making minimum wage in the Corps.

But...in the corps you had all your bills paid....housing, utilities, food, even a clothing allowance. As long as you were on base, you were covered.

Now, I am not saying you weren't underpaid especially for the danger, but let's be real here.
