Why conservatism (may) have failed.

Your idea of a strong educational system is one grounded in the mid 20th century and shouldn't change much?

Actually I've posted already quite a few times and I advocate both parties putting aside their isms and working together. Including I support vouchers

it's bad. throwing more money at it hasn't helped at all. I got no answers.

Yes, we need to spend it better. We also need to distribute it better, a lot of the problem are that poor schools are underfunded while schools in better areas are well funded. Poor schools are where we need a better impact to change the wealth distribution equation in this country

money isn't the answer..it's just not. Again I look at Baltimore.
I'd have to look at the student rankings but I'd wager it's pretty shitty compared to the country.

2011, Baltimore City Public Schools had the second-highest per student cost among the nation's 100 largest school districts according to the U.S. Census Bureau, spending $15,483 per student per year.

Anecdotal arguments are not very persuasive. Again, I advocate both parties get together, put the past and party politics aside and really look at the problem and create real solutions. A better educational system is better for everyone, including businesses who would have more consumers and a bigger pool of potential employees

I'm all for bi-partisanship.
But I do not see where more spending beyond funding the needs is going to give better results.

Better study habits/home life/family -I think that's where you get a pay off - not just "throwing more money" at it.

i like trumps plan. If you suddenly tie the ability of the schools to get paid with their graduate getting employed you just have to sit and watch education get better :)

something like that..it needs to better performance based

Maybe you could tell me what Republicans want to do for education beyond their own kid's schools because I sure don't see it

School choice and promotion of alternative methods such as charter schools for one. The status quo isn't working in poorer areas and they aren't the ones fighting to keep it.

They aren't fighting to make them better either

Vouchers are a way to allow some to get out of their crappy schools, it doesn't make the crappy school better, that's what I was saying

Some schools need to be shut down or repositioned. It happens. And continually pouring money into a failing venture isn't an improvement

in Florida we give school grades based on test scores and graduation rates(?). If you live near a crappy school -you can go elsewhere
or you can go charter. Schools that receive an "F" for 2 years in a row get shut down. So there is a goal

It's worked pretty well.

I will admit, that while it's easy to beat-up on urban schools, the truth is that no philosophy will fix education right now. The problem is the atrociously inept level of parenting we see in America today. This includes the suburbs, as well as rural and urban areas. The complete lack of discipline and respect we instill at home, and in the community, means we are sending fewer students and more problems to school. Since urban and rural families tend to be more broken, the suburban schools will skate by as "better" statistically.
