Why are US gas prices soaring when America barely uses Russian oil?

Since the original tweet is from Townhall, I have to read what he said in context. I clicked where it said "Read the full conversation of Twitter" and it didn't link to a full conversation. It linked to Drew Holden's Twitter account and two pictures.

In any case I believe that all of this started when the pandemic took hold, before Biden was elected. He wasn't the cause.

has he changed his policy or opinion?

So you admit that you were complicit in reducing global demand for gasoline by endorsing silly lockdowns that didn't work and caused untold economic damage?

Much of the world went on lockdowns during covid, so my support of them meant next to nothing. Biden had zero to do with other countries' decisions to do so.

So the "experts" said.

If you can prove otherwise without supposition or conspiracy theories, have at it.

Hmmm, when I click in the middle of tweet it allows me to scroll down and read his series of tweets

You want me to prove a negative?

Here are some excerpts from the article. There are also some graphs at the link.

"Most of Russia's oil goes to Europe and Asia. But the key here is to think about the oil supply globally, rather than the US specifically. The commodities world is a heavily interconnected one, and oil is priced through a global market. So what happens in one area of the world can affect another...

...it's true that very little of that Russian supply goes to the United States — just 90,000 barrels of crude oil per day in December, according to the most recent US government statistics. In 2021, by contrast, Europe got 60% of Russia's oil exports and China got 20%. But remember that oil is bought and shipped around the world through a global commodities market. So in that sense it doesn't really matter who specifically is getting crunched by the loss of Russian oil, because lower supply affects those global prices no matter what.

... if Europe buys less Russian oil, it will have to replace it with oil from somewhere else — perhaps from the powerful Saudi Arabia-led Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. That increase in demand for OPEC oil will send its crude prices higher. And guess who else buys hundreds of millions of barrels of OPEC oil? You guessed it: the United States.

How much crude oil does the United States import from Russia? Russia ranked ninth among the top 10 countries that the United States relies on for crude oil imports. In December 2021, the US imported 90,000 barrels per day from Russia."

As far as high gas prices in this country, I would say greed on big oil's part?!! They want more leases of federal land to drill baby drill?!! We and the world needs to be moving away from fossil fuels, and we don't have a lot time left either?!!

has he changed his policy or opinion?

What he said on March 8 in context below. And it was in regard to the current situation in Ukraine, not his overall policy.

"President Biden conceded that his administration is not able to strongly influence rising gas prices, in comments to reporters on Tuesday. “They’re gonna go up,” Biden said of gas prices after landing for a visit in Fort Worth, Texas. The average price of a gallon of gas hit a 14-year high of $4.009 on Sunday, according to AAA.

“Can’t do much right now,” Biden said when asked what he can do about the situation. “Russia is responsible.”

Biden’s remarks come hours after he announced a U.S. ban on Russian energy imports including oil, liquefied natural gas, and coal. The ban comes amid Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

“The decision today is not without cost here at home. Putin’s war is already hurting American families at the gas pump,” Biden said on Tuesday morning.

The president added that he is doing “everything I can to minimize Putin’s price hike here at home,” including releasing oil from the strategic reserves of the U.S. and allies."

What "you would say" is unsupported by any evidence, Cartoon Ken. Did "Big Oil's" costs to produce, refine, store and transport their products rise along with retail pricing? I'll understand if you don't know, of course.

They want more leases of federal land to drill baby drill?!!

What's wrong with that? Doesn't the law of supply and demand affect prices in your little world?

We and the world needs to be moving away from fossil fuels, and we don't have a lot time left either?!!

So you say. I suspect you don't have a lot of time left, and that makes me happy.
