Why are Republicans taking covid-19’s side in the fight against the pandemic?

Arrested

What is becoming of this country? Our freedoms are under assault, and no one seems to give a damn.

So, last night: I was minding my own business driving home when this cop pulls me over and ends up arresting me.

“Officer,” I explained, “this is the United States of America. And in this country, we believe in freedom!”

“But sir,” the patrolman calmly explained, “You were driving down the left side of the road.”

“Well, I didn’t hit anyone,” I asserted loudly.

“Luckily!” he said. “They all swerved out of your way. You could have caused a very serious accident and even killed someone, or possibly yourself.”

“Well, sir, I agree that it is their right to swerve out of my way. But are you saying that the mandated usage of safety belts would not have protected us had such an accident occurred?”

The patrolman lifted his head exasperated but responded, “Well, if everyone was wearing safety belts the chances of survival would have been better. But there is no guarantee that seatbelts will protect you or anyone in the event of a head-on collision.”

“Gee,” I said somewhat perplexed. “I wonder why they force us to wear them.”

“Look,” the officer began, “We have laws that require you to drive on the right, to prevent you from harming others, We have seatbelt laws to protect you as much as possible in the event something goes wrong,” the officer explained.

“You are infringing on my rights. In England, they drive on the left all the time. I should be able to drive on the left any time I want.”

“This isn’t England!” he said angrily. “The standard here is that we drive on the right side. Everyone is subject to the laws of this country when they are in this country.”

“I didn’t see any sign telling me I couldn't drive on the left side,” I asserted.

“It’s the law and it is assumed you know that because you have a driver’s license. By the way, would you please show me your license?”

“I don’t have one,” I said with scorn dripping from my voice. “I refused to get one. They are unproven.”

“Have you been drinking, sir?” he asked suspiciously.

“That is none of your damn business, officer. If I choose to drink before driving that is my concern only. It’s a free...”

He cut me off, “Yeah, a free country, I know. But you don’t feel any obligation to the safety of others that would cause you to not drink before driving, and to stay on the right side of the road?”

“The safety of others is not my problem. They are free to be concerned with their safety if they so choose. This is a free country after all. If they are that worried about their safety, perhaps they should just stay home.”

“But what about your own safety?” he asked derisively.

“I am free to be concerned with my safety if I choose to be concerned about it. It is, after all, my life that is on the line.”

“Well, sir, I’m going to have to require you to take a breathalyzer test. I suspect you may be under the influence of excessive alcohol consumption.”

“You’re requiring me to take a test? That’s oppression, officer. I thought this was a free country. This is Communism and Nazi-ism, combined. I will not take that test!”

And that is when he arrested me. This country is going down fast, and no one is doing anything about it.

Hello reagansghost;,

This is the GOP’s pandemic now. Cynical and irresponsible Republican politicians have created an environment that is killing Americans who shouldn’t have to die, swamping hospital systems with desperately ill patients, and generally ensuring that the pain and disruption of covid-19 are with us longer than they need be or should be. And they’ve done so in their own self-interest.

Yes, the more-infectious delta variant is driving this new wave. But vaccination and mask-wearing have the power to check that spike in cases, and to prevent those new diagnoses from turning into hospitalizations and deaths.

Can we possibly be so stupid that we ignore all empirical evidence and insist on inflicting grievous self-harm? Ambitious Republicans are betting that the answer to that question is yes.

Public enemy number one is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is transparently trying to position himself as a contender for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024. DeSantis has signed legislation barring local governments from imposing covid-19 restrictions and prohibiting businesses from requiring that patrons be vaccinated. He has fought to prohibit cruise ships sailing from Florida ports from mandating vaccinations. And though he supposedly supports local control over public schools, DeSantis has threatened to withhold state funding from districts that require students to wear masks.

Appealing to the dregs.

Ya gotta know you're scraping the bottom of the barrel as a politician when the only way you can figure out to get votes is to appeal to conspiracy theorists.

He needs the washed in da blood holy ghost anointin'

It's too late for Reagansghost. I, as one of God's Messengers, want to save as many Red Team members from Satan's Tricks as I can before it is too late.
Red Team MUST be allowed to refuse the Vaccine. Ask yourself: 'Would Jesus take an unproven Drug?'.
... NO, of course not.

Most can see this is a trick to turn Red Team into Zombies For The State. DON'T FALL FOR IT!!!

Its because repukes at conspiring with the former lawlessly hacked in tRump gutter swine have taken sides with foreign enemies at doing their bidding to wage war on Democracy and to which has basically destroyed the mind, body and soul of a number of tRumpsters who are either at the cemetery or near death at the hospital on a covid ventilator. Yet, the majority remains solid and vaccinated.

August 9 2021
Late Sunday, a federal judge in Miami granted Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings’ request for preliminary injunction against the Florida law sought by Gov. Ron DeSantis barring companies from requiring passengers to show proof of COVID vaccinations.
The cruise company sued Florida Surgeon General Scott Rivkees in July, arguing the state law, which DeSantis pushed for before the latest COVID surge, puts passengers and crew at risk, violates federal law, and the company’s constitutional rights.
After hearing arguments on Friday, U.S. District Judge Kathleen Mary Williams blocked the state from enforcing the law against Norwegian when the company restarts cruises from Florida this month.

Apparently the ethical courts must take over doing the task that this flunked up and seditious hacked in DeSantis insurgency created in order to do the job that this DeSantis has failed miserably in order to repair damage done in Florida by this creep DeSantis, Scott, tRump and other sewer conspiring GOPer swine that has created a covid and eco atrocity there and terrible damage on Florida's image among global visitors and cruise lines that have depended on industry there for decades.
