And if it doesn't...? Then what? Will you call for more spending on stuff that might not work? It's not as if "climate scientists" haven't been wrong before...

The problem with school busses isn't their diesel engines.
It's their fucking overhang.
They have short wheelbases so that special licenses aren't required to drive them,
and their ridiculous back overhang makes them unstable and unsafe.

Most school buses today run on diesel. The climate footprint of a diesel school bus is about 3.3 pounds of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) per mile, more than double the per-mile footprint (roughly 1.5 pounds of CO2e) for a bus powered on the average US electric grid, according to Argonne National Laboratory. If a large share of the American school bus fleet — the largest mass transportation system in the country — electrifies, that would translate to a significant emissions cut.
What’s more, diesel exhaust is carcinogenic. And specific components of the tailpipe fumes, such as particulate matter and nitrogen oxides (NOx), are linked to asthma and other respiratory problems in children.
“This is really a health issue,” says Almeta Cooper, national manager for health equity with the environmental group Moms Clean Air Force. But with almost a half-million school buses on the road daily, “it’s so much part of the scenery, people don’t even realize,” she says. That’s why Cooper and other parent activists have spent recent years rallying behind the electric bus. Now, she says, the technology is finally starting to gain traction.

There is no such thing as a 'climate footprint'. Climate has no feet.
There is no such thing as 'carbon dioxide equivalence'. It's either carbon dioxide or it's not.
Inefficient burns produce soot (particulates). That is not any nitrogen oxide gases. Such gases require a high burning temperature to even form. They can be prevented from forming by a simple EGR system, which is installed in all modern cars and trucks (including school buses).
Nitrogen oxides do not cause asthma or cancer. Neither does carbon dioxide. Neither does soot.
Diesel exhaust is NOT carcinogenic.

So you are now advocating that governments spend enormous sums of money to replacing a functioning school bus fleet with buses that cost two or three times as much and are 1.5 to 2 times as heavy on the roads.
Not a good investment. But, then, that's government for you.
 
As you read this thread dont forget that in the UK now electric fueling is more expensive than diesel, and that the cost of the bus runs about four times over regular buses. Also that the claimed spending per student is already over $17,000, but is actually more, because some spending is kept off the books.....the books are cooked.

And that the money trees are in the process of failing.
